As I reflect on my term as the President of the Keith J. Williams Chapter of the Black Law Student Association at Charleston Law, the experience has been simply amazing. I have been continually supported by a passionate and dedicated executive board, committees, and general body, especially Vice-President (Incoming President) Greg Seaborne .

Our term focused on four priorities — Fellowship and Unity, Order and Direction, Academic Excellence, and Networking and Community Service through various events, initiatives, programs, and services. Rather than list everything we’ve accomplished — and trust me, I could go on for awhile — I will give three of KJWBLSA’s accomplishments this past semester.

First, we led the initiative to assist and uplift the local community with the Life Empowerment Conference. We encouraged upward mobility and assisted individuals with their criminal record expungement.

Second, we digitalized our administrative process to ensure accurate record keeping and to streamline our organization’s executive operation. Additionally, we increased our online presence through social media and our new chapter website(www.KJWBLSA.org).

Third, we increase our chapter membership by 50 %, with all of our members paid both nationally and locally. The chapter was very active on the regional and national level, allowing us to be eligible to compete for Chapter of The Year. With the revamp of our general body meetings, we incorporated speakers and made our meetings exclusively for active members with their Membership “Black Card”.

Again, I could go into much more detail, but I hope these three initiatives highlight our many successes this past semester. To the entire KJWBLSA family, thank you for an exceptional semester together during my service to the organization and the community.

Thank you again!

- Kerry Shipman

Members visited St. Andrews Middle School for their Career Day event. The discussion was around the actors in the courtroom and the path to become an attorney. We believe It’s important to expose children to different career fields early!

Members gathered last night for our annual Angel Tree Lighting and to hear remarks from Professor Gammons. Each year we organize this program to put a smile on a child’s face. - Visit our website for more information and to see how you can help!
