Becoming a biomedical scientist was something I never imagined myself doing as a kid. I always thought I would become a medical doctor, but life presented me a new path. I’m so thankful that I chose biomedical research because it helped me grow into the person I am today. Being a mother, wife, scientist, educator, and mentor mean a lot to me.❤️

In honor of Juneteenth, I want to acknowledge the blood, sweat, and tears my ancestors shed for me to get here. My grandmother marched during the Civil Rights era where she was hosed down in the streets and threatened by the K*K for speaking out against racism. Her sacrifices is what carved my destiny to become the 1st Doctor in our lineage. I will forever be grateful for the strength, power, and determination of my ancestors that will pass down to my children and their children’s children. Happy Juneteenth everyone!!
