Last weekend, I had the opportunity to bring more awareness on STEM careers, Black women’s health, and disease prevention to a lovely group of middle school and high school students! We had more students join the community. It’s amazing to see this generation of scholars reach for the stars and prepare for their careers of interest.

Our final BHM Feature of 2024 is Tylik McMillan! Tylik is a proud HBCU graduate of North Carolina A&T State University works to educate lawmakers and stakeholders from the White House to corporate c-suites on the challenges and opportunities facing communities, by advocating for more resources and policies that help invest and advance economic and social equality.

Tylik has contributed on MSNBC, BBC World News and others. He has been recognized by Vice President Kamala Harris and the Biden-Harris White House as a prominent young voice to help lead our nation forward. In addition, he has been recognized as a United States Black Chamber of Commerce 50 Under 40, Bloomberg 50 One to Watch, National Urban League Young Professional National Trailblazer.

Tylik wishes to inspire other young people to get involved and make civic engagement the new norm, not the exception.

Our BHM Feature of the Day is Brian Garrett, PhD! A biochemist, education leader, and podcast host, Dr. Brian Garrett blends his scientific expertise with a deep commitment to diversity in STEM. With a BS in Chemistry from Morehouse College and a PhD in Biochemistry from UNC Chapel Hill, Dr. Garrett transitioned to education following recognition as a Protein Analytical Chemist at Genentech. As Founding Director of SMASH at Morehouse College and Program Manager at Morehouse School of Medicine, he champions opportunities for Black students in biomedical research and health careers. In 2023, Dr. Garrett launched the Grab Your Y podcast. There, he facilitates candid conversations with scientists, social impact practitioners, entrepreneurs, and more to amplify the diverse experiences and identities of Black men. Drawing from his personal and professional journey, Dr. Garrett fervently advocates for the advancement of the next generation of Black STEM professionals.

Our BHM Feature of the Day is Dr. Ramon Goings! Dr. Goings is the founder of Done Dissertation. Done Dissertation is a dissertation consulting firm that helps doctoral students, doctoral programs, and graduate student organizations break down the dissertation process into manageable pieces so that doctoral students can finish their dissertations in one year (or less). Our mission is to support at least 1,000 doctoral students successfully navigate the dissertation process.

Our BHM Feature of the Day is Danielle Mitchell! Danielle is an experienced Clinical Research Professional bringing diversity and much-needed change to one of the most critical industries. She has helped many professionals increase their reach and opportunities through Black Women in Clinical Research (BWICR), Black Men in Clinical Research (BMICR), and Minorities In Clinical Research (MICR). Presently, the organization has over 15,000 active members. The mission is to educate, empower, support, and help Black women, men, and minorities thrive in the clinical research industry.

Our BHM Feature of the Day is Dr. Sheena C. Howard! Dr. Sheena Howard is the first Black woman to win an Eisner award at San Diego Comic-Con for her first book, Black Comics: Politics of Race and Representation (2014). The Eisner is considered the ‘Oscars of Comics.’ Howard has published comic books for both Marvel (Illusion of Fairness, 2023) and DC (Fresh Air in Philly, 2021, and others) comics. She has written a graphic novel and stage play for DMC (from RUN-DMC), published with Bloomsbury (Black Comics: Politics of Race and Representation, 2014), Chicago Review Press (Encyclopedia of Black Comics, 2017), BenBella Press (Why Wakanda Matters, 2021), and more.

In addition, her work has received numerous book awards, including an American Library Association’s Outstanding Reference Sourcebook award and more. Her books have been featured in Good Morning America, The New York Times, The Washington Post, and more. She is also the subject of an Emmy-nominated episode of State of the Arts. Finally, Dr. Howard writes and ghostwrites for celebrities, CEOs, and social impact companies that seek to empower, inspire and motivate.

Our BHM Feature of the Day is Mizanni Matthews! Mizanni is a Georgia based photographer, cinematographer and producer. In a society often dominated by filtered images, her commitment is to authenticity, creating content from a place of unfiltered acceptance. That is the foundation on which ZMedia was created. ZMedia seeks to serve the world by meeting visual content needs. Through portrait, brand, sports cinematography, and photography, ZMedia aims to highlight authentic stories that create lasting memories and shared experiences.

Our BHM Feature of the Day is Ronald Moore Jr. Ronald is a native of Valdosta Georgia and currently attends Miles College, where he is a graduating senior majoring in Music Education. He is also a part of the Purple Marching Machine Band. The mission of R.Moore Media is to provide content for people all over so they can see the works of the Arts. Many times bands, dance groups, etc., put in relentless hours of practice for little recognition. Ronald’s goal is to give HBCU students a platform that shows the public and prospective students the variety of things that are offered at HBCUs. As a HBCU student involved in the marching band, he knows the hard work it takes to put on halftime shows every week and practice long hours and uses his platform to give HBCU scholars the recognition that they deserve.

Our BHM Feature of the Day is Rashad T. Dudley. Rashad is a compassionate author and visionary leader committed to fostering positive change. As the mind behind "Dear Black Boy: A Guide to Self Empowerment and Building Healthy Habits," he channels his personal experiences to provide Black boys with a constructive platform for self-discovery. Motivated by the adversities he confronted following the tragic loss of his brother and father, Rashad addresses vital themes such as self-identity, resilience, and goal-setting within the pages of his empowering book.

Beyond his literary endeavors, Rashad is the dynamic force behind Black Boys Empowered, a non-profit organization based in Detroit that he founded and presides over. Through this initiative, he tirelessly works to uplift and inspire Black boys, empowering them to unleash their full potential in a world that often presents challenges. Rashad's dedication to creating positive pathways for young minds reflects his unwavering commitment to fostering resilience and self-empowerment in the face of adversity.
