Each December, Missee Fox ‘73 shares her family's Hanukkah traditions with Lower School students. But this year, the conversation started differently in one fourth-grade classroom: What would you like to know about Hanukkah?

Her discussion with students was an extension of the Lower School’s emphasis on taking an inquiry stance when learning new things. From how many candles are on a menorah to what foods she always cooks, Fox answered their questions with facts and demonstrations to expand their knowledge of different traditions celebrated in our School community.

In upwards of 20 years, Dee Dee Smith, our IP Division Assistant, has been a key player in making the Ashley Hall Christmas Play a magical experience. It all began with a simple request to decorate a red hat for a congregation member, and now Dee Dee plays a crucial role in the play's wardrobe, including gown and angel wing fittings.

While the project is a big undertaking, Dee Dee says the main reason she continues to spend her time working with the play is seeing the pure joy on the girls' faces as they see themselves as senior angels.

The annual Ashley Hall Chrismas Play is this Friday, December 8, at the Cathedral Church of St. Luke & St. Paul.

Where in the United States are Ashley Hall Upper Schoolers? 🤔

Earlier this month, Upper School students from Ashley Hall engaged in two distinct travel experiences. The first group embarked on the Model UN Fall Trip to Williamsburg, Virginia, joining hundreds of high school students at the prestigious conference hosted by the College of William & Mary. Alongside participating in Model UN activities, the students also delved into the region's rich historical sites, such as Jamestown, Yorktown, and historic Williamsburg.

After the Model UN journey, another cohort of students set out for The Big Apple on the Building Bridges, Not Walls New York City trip. This group immersed themselves in the history and art of New York, exploring iconic landmarks like Ellis Island, the 9/11 Memorial, the United Nations, and world-class art museums to gain insights into the city's sources of inspiration.
