This was just posted on the Trinity United Methodist page:

“It is with deep sadness that we report the death of beloved congregation member Rose Grim Campbell . Rose was a faithful member of Trinity UMC for almost 75 years. Funeral arrangements are not yet available.”

Rose was a longtime devoted Pilot Club of Charleston member. She was 96, yet faithfully attended meetings until last year when she switched to Emeritus.

The Pilot Club of Charleston provided the Pick Me Up lunch to Ronald McDonald House today. We took BBQ from Rolling Smoke, buns, slaw, chips, ice tea and cookies.

Several members got together today at Wellspring Global Methodist Church to assemble 25 “hygiene kits” for flood victims. The GMC will distribute these kits to victims of the recent flooding in north central West Virginia. We were pleased to be able to approve and pull this project together quickly and to support citizens of WV in need. 💪🏻

We had a good turnout for our July meeting. Representatives from the WVU Medical Brigade (which we support) presented an overview of their program. Oretta Keeney did a great job leading her first meeting as president!
Members brought donations for LERMA, a local food bank that we have supported for several years.
We have lost another member, Beckie Mohn. 😢 Her service will be in Huntington on Saturday.

“The Boulevard of Flags” Charleston, WV

This past weekend was the anniversary of our longest running project. PCofC raised the money to have 13 USA flags installed at the levee (now known as Haddad Park) in downtown Charleston, WV. We were honored in a ceremony on July 4, 1976, USA Bi-Centennial. For the next 50 years we have paid for new flags to be installed alternating with the City of Charleston.

VINTAGE WV: Spectators attend the ceremony of the Pilot Club’s “Boulevard of Flags” project, which will place 28 flags along the top of the City Levee.

The $10,000 project is dedicated in memory of Sol Padlibsky, Charleston Daily Mail columnist who envisioned and promoted the idea for 15 years before his death. Mayor John Hutchinson received the project for the city after a 46-unit parade went through downtown Charleston. Members of the color guard (upper right) prepare to raise the flags of the original 13 colonies and 50-star American flags from 13 poles.

Flags of the State of West Virginia and the City of Charleston will be raised on the 14th pole.

And now we know…
The first year of the pilot club of Charleston participating in this project was 1976. If anyone recalls, that was a Centennial year.
Our focus now is buying the flags for the boulevard every other year, alternating with the City of Charleston.
