🎉Welcome to our new and returning students in the Doctor of Education in Learning and Inquiry in Practice program! At the beginning of June, these graduate students kicked off their summer term by spending time on campus to foster connections with faculty, mentors, and colleagues.

The Ed.D. program, directed by Keonya Booker, prepares students to be leaders, advocates, and innovators across sectors that impact learning, including education, nonprofits, government, and business. Through its action- and research-oriented approach, students grow adept at innovative problem solving, ethical policy shaping, and positive change making.

What do you get when you bring elementary students to CofC? Camp Art Attack!🎨🖌️

This week, our M.A.T. graduate students put their learning to the test. As part of their “Creativity and the Fine Arts” class taught by Dr. Tracey Hunter-Doniger, these students designed and directed a four-day camp for 35 children in grades K-7.

Camp Art Attack puts the “A” in STEAM education, encouraging campers to be creative and explore ideas in a playful environment. From stop-motion animation to Chinese fan making, our campers and grad students have been busy testing the limits of learning and play!☀️

Kaitlin Ashby ’25 was recently named one of Charleston County School District’s 2026 Rookie Teachers of the Year, an honor recognizing outstanding first-year educators across early childhood, elementary, middle, and high school levels. Nominated by her principal, Ms. Ashby was selected for her dedication to meeting the needs of her students and their families and for exemplifying the values of her school community. While at the College, she earned her BA in Special Education and Teaching.

Congratulations to Patrick Martin, a member of our first Ed.D. cohort, on being named the 2026 Charleston County School District Teacher of the Year! 🎉

Patrick teaches English at Charleston County School of the Arts and continues to make a lasting impact both inside and outside the classroom. He shared that he is honored to have been selected and hopes to use this opportunity to emphasis the importance of creating “community” across all areas of the district.

We are proud to celebrate this well-deserved recognition and grateful for the leadership, passion, and dedication he brings to education every day.
