We are partnering with Putnam County 4-H and Camp Virgil Tate to start a NEW 4-H Horse Club!

Meetings will be held at the beautiful new equine facilities at Camp Tate. All 4-H'ers age 9 and older are welcome, and you do not need a horse to participate!

4-H'ers beyond Kanawha and Putnam counties can participate, too. We are also looking for adult volunteers with equine knowledge to help with club programming.

WVU Division for Land Grant Engagement is conducting a statewide needs assessment to identify West Virginia's most pressing educational, agricultural, and health-focused needs.

We want input from people who know 4-H best: alumni, families, and everyone involved in our programs.

Your feedback will help identify priorities, guide future programming, and ensure resources are focused where they can make the greatest impact.

Participation is voluntary, confidential, and open to West Virginia residents age 18 and older. The survey takes approximately 10-15 minutes to complete.

Registration for the *FREE* Teen Leader Weekend closes this Friday (October 16th)! Don't let the FOMO get you! Open to 4-H'ers from any and all counties, too!

Join us at Camp Tate for a multi-state Teen Leader Weekend! This weekend overnight will focus on character-building and training teens to be teachers in their community. 4-H'ers ages 12-17 from Boone, Kanawha, Logan, and Putnam counties are invited to attend. We will be having a Halloween party on Saturday after campfire and campers are welcome to dress up!

When: Friday, October 23 at 5 PM through Sunday, October 25 at 11 AM

Where: Camp Virgil Tate (1400 Camp Virgil Tate Rd, Charleston, WV 25312)

Ages: 12-17 (4-H'ers ages 18-21 must be vetted before attending. Contact your Extension agent for more information)

Cost: FREE- thanks to the American Camp Association for supporting Camp Virgil Tate!

To register: Search "Camp Virgil Tate Teen Leader Weekend" in ZSuite. All participants must have an active ZSuite account to register. Instructions on how to create a ZSuite account or get enrolled can be found in the comments.

What to bring:
Bedding- sheets, blanket, pillow
Clothing- bring options for both warm and cool weather
Toiletries

Medication:
All medication should be brought in its original container with the name of the medication, the camper's name, and dosage instructions clearly labeled. Please do not send medication in unmarked bottle/bags or in pill organizers.

Registration is open now for the WV 4-H State Muzzleloader Match!

The WV 4-H Muzzleloading R***e Competition is a National Qualifying event to be eligible to represent WV in Grand Island, NE.

This match will mimic the 4-H National Championship with one-fourth the number of total shots and targets. Relays will be 30 minutes and 5 shots each, 50 yard Bullseye, 25-yard Bottles and Critters. The silhouette match will be for fun/experience only and will not be scored as part of the match.

Age requirements: youth between the ages of 12 and 19 on or before January 1, 2026

New 4-H year means new 4-H meetings! 🥳

The Charleston Explorers will be holding their first monthly meeting tomorrow, Wednesday, October 7th, at 6pm at the Kanawha County Public Library in Downtown Charleston. You'll find us in Room 311A and it's open to any Charleston area student ages 5 and older! Hope to see you there! 😊
