On January 20th, the MUSC College of Pharmacy placed its final beam and celebrated its new addition with a momentous Topping Out Ceremony. The beam was filled with signatures of past and present students, faculty, and other individuals tied to the College , as well as the design and construction team that brought it to fruition. RMF was in attendance and proud to be #partoffthemovement, having provided MEP / FP engineering design services for the College of Pharmacy addition project.

This addition included a two-story, 40,000 SF expansion constructed along the south side of the Basic Science Building that was built on the Horseshoe in the heart of MUSC’s campus. Its location brings the College closer to its training pharmacy and research spaces in the Drug Discovery Building. The College of Pharmacy addition is the third component of a larger initiative that includes an expansion of the Basic Science Building and the renovation of the Colbert Education Center and Library (CECL). Congratulations to all involved! https://bit.ly/34zpyik

Our appreciation to MUSC Pharmacy students from the philanthropy group Kappa Psi Lota and Phi Delta Chi from MUSC College of Pharmacy for organizing a donation drive of 1,212 pounds of food for the Shifa Free Clinic and partnering with our Hunger Prevention Programs.
We know that ending hunger in our communities requires collaboration and working together with the young generation we feel so blessed. Thanks for supporting us to give more people access to fill that gap.

Our hearts go out to the families that were impacted by the tragedy in Uvalde, Texas this week. We grieve for the victims of this senseless massacre. Life is precious. Our mission to preserve and optimize human life certainly puts us at odds with anyone who threatens this precious gift with the violence we all saw as this tragedy unfolded. In the coming days, we encourage you to hug your loved ones a bit tighter, show patience and kindness to others, and do good with the precious gift of life we are given. Please know that we are here for our community. Research standout makes his mark in College of Graduate Studies

It has been an incredible journey for Heslop, 28, who as a young boy dreamed of doing big things and helping others. “There were a lot of people who believed in me from a young age. It provides faith whenever I feel challenged. It’s when you examine things retrospectively that you realize that all the pieces fit together in your journey,” said Heslop.

Congratulations Dr. Kareem Heslop, one of Saturday's 26 doctor of philosophy candidates. Dr. Heslop worked closely with Dr. Woster and his team, learning to identify compounds that bind to the VDAC channel and screening them in tumor cells. He also worked alongside other leading experts at MUSC, including Yuri Peterson, Ph.D.; Pieter Berger, Ph.D.; Stephen Duncan, Ph.D.; and Amandine Rovini, Ph.D.

Student Mentors for Minorities in Pharmacy (SMMP) is a program designed to prepare minority high school and college students for a career path in pharmacy. Students are paired with a current pharmacy student who serves as their mentor and guides them through the seven-month-long program. At the completion of this year’s program, we asked all mentors and mentees to nominate one mentor who had gone above and beyond. We are proud to recognize Edward E. Bost III as the 2021-2022 SMMP Mentor of the Year!
