About the Founder
I’ve always loved the outdoors and the quiet beauty of nature. My interest in birds began while I was working as a PGA professional at Bulls Bay Golf Club, when I noticed a small heron fishing along a pond. Curious to learn more, I used the Merlin Bird ID app and discovered it was a Green Heron. That moment sparked something in me, a fascination that quickly grew into a lifelong passion for birds and the natural world. As I began logging my sightings in eBird, I discovered an amazing community of birders, from beginners to experts, all sharing the same joy of discovery. Birding soon became a part of my daily life and inspired me to explore Charleston’s parks, wetlands, and coastal habitats, seeing the Lowcountry through new eyes. There’s a real peace and happiness that comes from watching birds in their element. Holy City Birding was born from that feeling and from a desire to share it with others. Whether leading tours, working with kids, or introducing others to birding, my goal is to inspire curiosity, wonder, and appreciation for the world around us.

More than 10.5 MILLION birds crossed Charleston County in just three nights. 🤯🐦

While most of us were sleeping, an incredible wave of fall migration was unfolding overhead.

BirdCast estimated 2,767,000 birds Thursday night, 5,362,800 Friday night, and another 2,454,300 Saturday night crossing Charleston County — bringing the three-night total to an estimated 10,584,100 birds.

So what did all of that migration look like on the ground?

I headed out to Sullivan’s Island to find out. By morning, migrants were moving through the maritime forest, including warblers and other songbirds making their way south for the fall.

It’s pretty incredible to think that while Charleston is sleeping, millions of birds can be moving through the darkness above us — and by morning, some of them are right here in our parks, forests and backyards.

Taking the classroom outside! 🌿🔎🐦

We had such a fun morning birding with Little LowCo Co-op along the West Ashley Greenway! The kids explored the salt marsh, learned about bird habitat, and put their observation skills to work discovering some of the incredible wildlife that calls the Lowcountry home.

We found 20 species and more than 600 birds, from herons and shorebirds to a Belted Kingfisher and hundreds of Laughing Gulls!

A big thank you to Little LowCo Co-op for inviting Holy City Birding to spend the morning with your families. I loved seeing how curious and engaged these young birders were! 🐦
