The Anthology of Appalachian Writers is a publication that encourages a long-established tradition of storytelling, love of language, and creative expression associated broadly with the region of Appalachia. Though the anthology’s principal mission is to provide a venue for the publication of new writers, it also provides a collection of literature and scholarship that contributes to an understanding and appreciation for the region. For consideration and inclusion in Volume XIII, fiction, poetry, creative nonfiction, and essay submissions should relate in some respect to the work of Dorothy Allison and her stories about class, gender issues, stereotyping and coming of age stories in Appalachia. For an understanding of Allison’s work, please see the current AHWIR website and resources link at https://www.shepherd.edu/ahwirweb/allison/, click on the essay “The Poetry and Prose of Dorothy Allison and the Power of the Story.”
The Shepherd University Foundation and The West Virginia Center for the Book support the anthology. The Anthology of Appalachian Writers is part of the Shepherd University Center for Appalachian Studies and Communities.
