How to figure out how many calories you should be consuming based on your goals ⬇️

Sure you could get to where you’re wanting to be without tracking your calories or having a direct plan but it may take you a few years to figure it out. And I don’t believe anyone can figure it out unless they treat it like a science experiment and write off the things that work and things that don’t work.
So instead of gambling that & chancing it, here is a direct way to go about it ⬇️

1. get MyFitnessPal and track what you eat for about 1-2 weeks. Even a few days is fine but 1-2 weeks is ideal because you have “off” meals or more calories on other days. From here we can figure out what calories you have been eating that keeps you at maintenance. (Get the average from those numbers).
2. Next we’ll want to reduce that average by 10-20% because no matter what you do, a calorie deficit is how you lose weight. Or we add 10-20% for a calorie surplus to try and gain size.
3. Stick to this number of calories for 2-3 weeks to see how your body adjusts! You may not see it in the first week but as we always say, consistency is key and you should see progress in week 2-3. From there, you’ll adjust if no progress is being made.

Hope this helps.

I feel like a part of being a personal trainer is quite literally unteaching people the unhealthy habits that the world around us has made us believe were okay.

Unfortunately there are so many things wrong (food choices, health choices, the proper approach to getting better or fixing ones mental/physical health) and although I do not hyper focus on all of the bad (or intend to), there are so many things I wish we could change.

To dive deeper, I feel like it is my duty to help people find their solid ground. To make them feel like they are not just EXISTING, but rather - they are LIVING.

As humans I believe we do so many things that are not in our NATURE (stay inside all day to work, lack of movement cause of work, not prioritizing a trip, not giving ourselves time to develop, grow, or even space we need in our everyday), and we get into this endless cycle of doing things that don’t fill our hearts and free our minds. Things that don’t make us happy. Rather they fit into a norm! But what if this “normal” is so far away from what we truly need as human beings?

That’s how people get stuck.
That’s how people develop random sadness. Random depression.
Why they supplement with medication.
Why eating disorders arise - like, emotional eating.
Or a lack of eating.
Loss of energy.
Loss of sleep.
Loss of stimulation and excitement.
That’s how we become unhappy.

And I truly feel it has always been my duty to fix that. Not just for myself but for everyone around me.

The truth about group classes:

So while group classes are really great, and I have some really respected trainers & friends who teach them, they are absolutely in NO WAY shape or form sustainable. And a few of them will say this!

Because the thing about it is, is that no matter if it is 5 or if it is 30 clients in one room, to keep everyone moving (finding a balance between everyone’s pace so that they are satisfied and feel like they are getting a good workout) you have to ramp it up a little higher than the normal. Especially for most because you will have advanced people, intermediates, and beginners all in one class.

So if you are going to these classes every single time you workout, they are basically training you to go all out intensity every single time you go to the gym. And you have to understand that if you are not familiar with working out by yourself or just working out in general, this does NOT create a healthy long term habit/pace. At least not something you can carry with you long term.
More is not always better. Your heart rate does not need to be 160-185 the whole time when you are working out. Nor do you need to superset everything or circuit everything you are doing. Group classes are a good ADD ON. Not your every day routine. And trust me, you won’t get to your weight loss goals/learn a good routine faster by having your heart rate at 180 while doing weights.

It takes ten times longer to put yourself back together than it does falling apart. Remember that when making decisions that don’t match your goals.

Wow, 2022!!
Same me, but this time I’m tired of playing around with my own potential 🙏🏻

And I know you - you are, too!!
This year is all about positive changes. BETTER GOALS. Maybe some hard changes. But If it’s not challenging, it won’t change you. It’s all for the better 🔥
