Since 2010, more than 65 College of Charleston students have visited Greece on Alternative Break to volunteer at the Mediterranean Marine Life Center. Most recently, 12 students spent two weeks in May helping support efforts to protect loggerhead sea turtles.
โThis global partnership gives our students the chance to move beyond theoretical classroom concepts to hands-on skill development thatโs shaped by their volunteer efforts,โ says Stephanie Visser, director of the College's Center for Civic Engagement. โAt the same time, theyโre challenged to step out of their comfort zone as they see, in real time, how their actions can impact a community.
