Parklet Design #1

Nature's Refuge
Greening the City for Mental Respite

Nature's Refuge Parklet is an innovative architectural project strategically situated within the bustling MUSC campus, designed with the primary objective of providing a serene escape from the high-stress environment that often characterizes the medical / academic settings. This oasis of tranquility aims to foster well-being and relaxation through thoughtful integration of natural elements and sensory experiences. Nature's Refuge Parklet is more than just a physical space; it's a carefully curated experience aimed at rejuvenating the mind and spirit. As individuals immerse themselves in this natural sanctuary within the MUSC campus, they are invited to take a pause from the demands of medical / academic life and find comfort in the therapeutic embrace of Nature's Refuge.

Grocery Gathers
A Place Where History, People, & Businesses Come Together

Community Hub
Queen Street Grocery has been in the community since 1922, it has always been seen as a place for the locals to shop, gather, communicate, and engage with one another. This parklet design hopes to enhance all of these elements allowing history to continue as the community grows.

Supporting Locals
Embedded within the design is a multi-functional space that can be reserved and used as anyones sees fit. The space can be an opportunity for the locals to get information from their neighbors, start a business, display art, goods, or anything for sale.

Enhance Interaction
Since the pandemic the comradery of neighbors within a community have lessened, this parklet hopes to rebuild the sense of a community by allowing more space for people to be around one another with the additional seating, space, and community board promoting local events, festivities, or local news.

A New Third Place
Being a third place amplifies the positive impact of a parklet on the community. Turning it into a dynamic hub for social interaction, community identity, strengthened social networks, local economic support, community events, a sense of ownership, and reduced social isolation.
