Friday was our last day of Summer Enrichment, and though we're sad it's over we are so excited to see how everyone is prepared to enter the next level of their schooling journey.

We had a ton of fun digging out a dinosaur from our homemade Dig Kits, playing games, eating pizza, and celebrating our oldest student turning 11!

We cannot wait to see these friendly faces again for the school year, so if you have any questions about enrollment for the Ashley Oaks Homework Club for school year 2022-2023 school year, please call us at (843) 763-2363 or email us directly at [email protected].

Have a great rest of summer, everyone!!

Monday we had our special guest Mrs. Liberty by to talk to us about all things SPACE! We learned about the Earth, the planets, stars, their life cycle, what constellations are, and the stories behind three of the constellations we can see in our night sky! Check out the cute song about the moon at the end, it's precious ♥

Check out these future pro bowlers! We had so much fun at Royal Lanes last Friday. We chose this field trip because of the common sound comparison between bowling pins being knocked down and rolling thunder. We discovered that despite never trying it before, we have a lot of natural players and some discovered a love for the game!

Mrs. Stephanie came to visit again for Zumba Kids!! We reviewed our moves from Colombia and learned new moves in the salsa style of dance!!

This past week kicked off our Summer Enrichment Program for 2022! We have had a blast so far and we can't wait to tell you about it!! This week's theme is NATURE!!!

Monday we painted birdhouses and learned about how we can help conservation efforts for native birds in our areas by placing bird houses. The kids also painted flower pots to plant dwarf sunflowers.

Tuesday we learned about the parts of a flower with Mrs. Liberty, and how plants grow. We did a fun experiment with white carnations where we turned them green and blue by coloring water! In the afternoon we learned more about flowers, why they're colorful, and we planted our dwarf sunflowers.

Wednesday was our first Wellness Wednesday! We had Zumba Kids class with ZIN Stephanie Robinson! The kids moved and grooved to their own beat, created a dance of their own, and learned a dance from the country of Colombia. Later we learned about the water cycle with Mrs. Liberty and recreated it in a bag to see it in action!

Thursday we read the book Thundercake, where the young author told us how her grandmother taught her to not fear storms. We all took turns baking a cake as well, and it was delicious! Students got to take home the recipe from the book to make at home. In the afternoon we learned about how to prepare for storms, natural disasters, and how we can keep ourselves safe in any situation.

Friday is our first field trip to Charles Towne Landing here in West Ashley. We are going on a scavenger hunt while we learn about the history of our great city, the animals native to our land, and how the original settlers interacted with nature! Stay tuned for more pictures!!

For Black History Month and Women’s History Month the Homework Club is looking at Alice Walkers 1982 novel “The Color Purple” for inspiration. This novel has challenged readers for decades with its sensitive themes and educated us all about the strength and resilience of black women throughtout history. We see that strength in the black women we revere in the modern day from our neighbors, all the up to the highest offices and courts of our great country.

With this piece, we sought to embolden our community’s women and girls to remember that they all have strength, and they all have power no matter how big or small. We could all benefit from remembering our power, knowing our history, and thus knowing ourselves.

Today we went to Bee City Zoo! None of us had ever been before and were AMAZED how many fantasic animals they had and the information they gave us about it made a valuable learning experience!! The kids were ecstatic and had a blast! We can’t wait to do it again 🐝💖

We also looked at how tornadoes can pick up DEBRIS and throw them through the air while learning tornado safety!

🌬⛈🌪 We can’t thank her enough for all she brought to us, and learned!🌪⛈🌬

Here are some snippets from Wednesday’s experiments with Mrs. Liberty Crosetti! We learned about how clouds form up close, in a big jar!

This week has been Nature Week, and we have had SO much fun!
Monday we learned about the water cycle and made rain in a bag.
Tuesday we learned about how clouds form, the different kinds of clouds and the weather they bring us.
Wednesday we had a special guest, Mrs. Liberty! She taught us how to make a cloud in a bottle!! 🌬⚡️We also saw more about hurricanes and thunderstorms, hurricane Hugo, and made Thunder Cake (by Patricia Polacco). ⛈⚡️🌊👨🏾‍🍳👩🏻‍🍳 We also did an experiment on how tornadoes and how they look and pick up DEBRIS.
Thursday was pool day and we had fun in the sun! We learned about the parts of a hibiscus flower, and all about tornadoes, even where the largest tornado ever recorded was in Dhaka, Bangladesh!🌪

Tomorrow is Field Trip Friday and we are going to BEE CITY ZOO to meet some animals and learn more about the parts they play in nature! We can’t wait to share the pictures with you all!!💖🌿🦋

Happy Father's Day! Today we take the time to celebrate the men in our lives that have helped us grow as people, whether they be fathers, step-fathers, grandfathers, uncles, brothers, friends, or mentors. We thank you for being there for us, for being a guiding light in our lives both in the past and today.

Thank you 💜

Today we celebrate Juneteenth as a day of liberation. The Emancipation Proclamation had outlawed slavery in Texas and other states who rebelled against the Union two and a half years before the slaves in Texas were finally liberated with the ratification of the Thirteenth Amendments to the Constitution.

Freedom is a right that all men and women are born with, and the institution of slavery was and is a scar on the face of this country. We remember all those who died in chains, and those that broke them at risk of their lives to bring us the freedom that we have today.

Peanut butter and banana go together so well, we don't know how many times we can combine them into tasty treats for the whole family, but we're willing to find out! So why not make pops out of them this time? ☀ Check out the recipe in the comments!
