Name That Tune
Take a listen to 6B's final project in music class and see if you can name that tune. Says Ms. Getter, "These students learned this song in a short amount of time. They were very dedicated to learning the song and, having never played in an ensemble like this before, I was very impressed with their drive and determination!"

What Do Teachers Do All Summer?
They learn! Mrs. Kathleen Thomas and Mrs. Babb are taking courses to earn their Orton-Gillingham certifications. The basic purpose of everything that is done in the Orton-Gillingham Approach, from recognizing words to composing a poem, is assisting the student to become a competent reader, writer, and independent learner. Thank you to the Mason Prep Foundation for making this important professional development possible. #masonprepproud

Outdoor Sculpture Garden
The finished product! Fifth graders made over 75 clay flowers to complete their end-of-the-year art installation. It was interesting to see how students made each flower unique and how the clay blooms came together to make everyone smile! #masonprepproud

Pinatas
The finished products! 6th graders did a fantastic job of making their own pinatas in Spanish class. They started with flat cardboard and made these amazing shapes (we're partial to the MPS pinatas, naturally). ๐Ÿ˜† #masonprepproud

Solar-powered Tiny Houses
7th grade science students built solar-powered tiny houses to conclude their unit on renewable energy. They were required to design and construct the foundation, framing, interior walls, roof, and the electrical work. Students were challenged to create their own light fixtures and wire each room. The lights were solar powered by panels located on the roof of the tiny house. All homes were energy efficient in at least 6 ways, which students explained in a writing piece.

Congratulations to the Class of 2021!
We are so proud of this class. They worked hard, were kind to one another, and made the very most of their final year at Mason Prep. While we are sad to see them move on to high school, we look forward to welcoming them back as alumni and hearing about all the things they accomplish. Once a Knight, always a Knight! #masonprepproud

Third Grade Field Trip
Third graders visited McLeod Plantation Historic Site recently. This 37-acre Gullah/Geechee heritage site invites visitors to learn about its historic significance and to explore the lives of the people that lived there. The program, called โ€œDawn of Freedom,โ€ taught students about the enslaved peopleโ€™s transition from slavery to freedom.
