Book updates from Susan Wise Bauer!

One of my oldest and dearest friends just sent me this picture...taken in Blackwells in Oxford, England. What fun to see this book, which remains one of my favorite projects, still on the shelves after nearly twenty years.

This is a good opportunity for me to do a writing update, if you'll indulge me! My most recent book, THE GREAT SHADOW, is still getting quite a lot of social media attention and media pieces, including (speaking of international readerships!) a lengthy feature from the Hindustan Times. I'm working on a book club supplement for the next edition, so if you enjoyed the book and would like to suggest a discussion question, please chime in! https://www.hindustantimes.com/lifestyle/art-culture/all-well-a-new-book-explores-how-illness-shaped-our-world-101787921917732.html

Our 25th Anniversary Edition of the Story of the World project continues, with Volume 2 (The Middle Ages!) coming out in February. I've already revised Volume 3 and am deep into Volume 4. I love the new editions--all the storytelling of the original, plus more depth and more fascinating characters.

And I've got some great new projects in the works. Stay tuned for updates.

Thanks for following.

TimelineTuesday: 10/13/1908, Margaret Travers Symons slips away from her tour guide, bursts into Parliament (where women had only been permitted to watch the proceedings through a peephole), and loudly demands that women be allowed to vote in Great Britain. She thus becomes the first woman to speak in the House of Commons.

TimelineTuesday: 10/6/1459, birthday of Martin Behaim, maker of the world's oldest known globe. Because he made his globe before 1492, it didn't include the Americas. It also had other minor errors, such as placing Japan somewhat further south than its actual position, and also depicting the planet as being round, when we now know the earth to be banana-shaped.
