It’s hard to believe the Iowa State Fair wrapped up just a few days ago! With fall quickly approaching, we wanted to take a moment to reflect on some of the incredible projects Floyd County 4-H’ers had on display at the Iowa State Fair. 🍀

Did you know that more than 3,200 4-H projects are displayed in the 4-H Building each year by youth from across Iowa? That’s a whole lot of creativity, hard work, knowledge and talent under one roof! 🤩

Congratulations to all of our Floyd County 4-H’ers who had the opportunity to share their projects, talents and knowledge with the public during fair season. We are so proud of everything you accomplished! 👏

Preserving tomatoes, vegetables and herbs in oil at home can be dangerous. Oil can trap moisture and block oxygen, creating conditions for the deadly bacteria, Clostridium botulinum, to grow. Evergreen plants, such as pine and spruce, can be planted from mid-August through September. Evergreens planted in late October or November may not have adequate time to become established before winter and could be subject to winter injury or death.

Water newly planted trees every day for 3 or 4 days and then gradually reduce the frequency of watering. When watering, slowly apply water to the rootball and surrounding soil. A thorough watering every 7 to 10 days (in dry weather) should be sufficient 3 to 4 weeks after planting. Continue watering until the ground freezes.
