Dear Members of the NDCL Family:
I write to you today with some very sad news for our NDCL community. Mr. Frank Platzar, our devoted and faithful athletic director since 2005, died Sunday evening.
A couple of weeks ago Mr. Platzar underwent heart surgery. Although the surgery was initially successful, a series of complications led to his death. Mr. Platzar was 69 years old.
As I shared with our students this morning, it comes as no surprise to me that Mr. Platzar's heart was the organ that failed him. Every day he selflessly poured his heart into everything he did. As a husband, father, grandfather, friend, coach, and athletic director, he lovingly put the needs of others first. Our student-athletes always held a special place in his huge heart.
In honor of Mr. Platzar and to allow our staff to support his family and each other in prayer at his funeral liturgy, I have decided to cancel all classes at NDCL on Monday, November 13.
Some of our students and their parents will choose to join us at the funeral. Whether they can participate in the Mass or not, this morning I urged all of our students to use the unexpected blessing of free time on Monday to do something very intentionally to express their love for their own families. We can all honor Mr. Platzar by loving our families as he loved his own.
Here are the details of Mr. Platzar's wake and funeral:
Wake:
Sunday, November 12
2:00 - 8:00 PM
Monreal Funeral Home
35400 Curtis Boulevard
Eastlake, Ohio
Funeral Mass:
Monday, November 13

An honor guard of NDCL student-athletes will pay tribute to Mr. Platzar at his funeral.
Notre Dame-Cathedral Latin School is a better place because of Mr. Platzar. God blessed all of us through him. We will miss him dearly.
--
Eternal rest grant unto him, O Lord,
and let perpetual light shine upon him.
May his soul and the souls of all the faithful departed,
through the mercy of God, rest in peace. Amen.

With heartfelt gratitude for the life, faith, and love of Frank Platzar,
Joseph A. Waler
