Jen Butler, Writer/Coach/Mom I am the author of MOM, REDISCOVERED, my debut memoir that will be published in October 2025. I also write Best Mom Never on Substack!

Through my writing and coaching, I help women find more joy in the messy marathon of midlife and motherhood. Here’s what you can expect from working with me:

One small moment of Zibby Owens busy book tour that means the absolute world to me 🥰

It’s safe to say my book would not exist without Zibby. It was her advice — “No market is oversaturated when it comes to life stories. There’s only one like yours. Stop trying to play the market. Write your story. Go.” — that gave me the loving kick in the pants I needed to be brave enough to write the story that was in my heart.

Today, getting to see Zibby at my happy place Bedford Books and take this photo holding each other’s books, was a full circle moment. Especially because I am “Between Chapters” now, living my next memoir as I navigate big life changes.

Zibby, thank you for being exactly who you are. And thank you for putting this new book into the world to remind us that we may be between chapters, but we are never alone 🫶

… and I really would’ve liked to have done a whole marketing blitz to announce this, but you know what? It’s summer. My kids are around all the time. I didn’t even realize the book was up on all these additional platforms until a few days after it happened. Alcohol freedom was once utterly unfathomable. Now, it’s as deeply ingrained in my being as drinking once was.

The thought of making it through an evening without w**e used to fill me with dread. Now I never even think about it.

I can’t believe it’s been 8 years since I started my one year alcohol-free commitment, which turned into a forever choice. I didn’t think I wanted to stop drinking. That was never my goal. But it’s where I ended up, and I’m so grateful to be exactly where I am.

I use the term alcohol-free instead of sober because here’s the thing: I can drink if I want to. I have had sips of different drinks over the years if there was something I wanted to try. I even drank one cocktail while out celebrating my bestie’s 40th and she and I were served cocktails instead of mocktails.

I can drink if I want to. I just don’t want to. That’s the freedom I have snatched back from booze. And it’s felt so good to keep it, tend to it, embody it for the last eight years.

To me, alcohol freedom still feels like one of the greatest gifts I have ever given myself. And I think it always will. I will always be grateful I never hit rock bottom. That I believed I deserved better before things became dire. That I chose to create change exactly when I did.

Recording this book—reading my story out loud, in its entirety—unlocked a new level of healing for me.

But I didn’t record it for me. I recorded it for her:

🫆The woman who feels stuck.
🫆The woman who knows she deserves better.
🫆The woman who feels incapable of creating change.
👉Even though she knows she needs to do exactly that.

This book can be a starting point. For her. For you.

Because this is how I started on my journey: by listening to other women’s stories of transformation. Their courage bolstered my own. Their truth inspired me to own mine.

This is the honest truth: back when I was at the start of my journey, when I was bogged down in diet culture and gray area drinking, I never would have bought a book with my book’s title.
