Today, Students that have science this spring semester will be bringing home the planters we sowed a few weeks ago. Please keep these plants inside for another week or two until their stalks grow a little stronger and the threat of frost is less likely. Students planted bell pepper ๐Ÿซ‘, kale ๐Ÿฅฌ, cucumber ๐Ÿฅ’, purple carrot ๐Ÿฅ•, Roma tomato ๐Ÿ…, and brussel sprout ๐ŸŒฑ seeds. We are thankful for the assistance from the WVU Extension Office for the seeds, planters, and soil.

I look forward to seeing the progress these plants are making at home!!! ๐Ÿก

Please visit the following website to help guide you at home for transplanting these plants outdoors. ๐ŸŒฑ โ˜€๏ธ

Tomorrow will be the last day for our students to get their iReady and Imagine Math lessons in for our fun trip to Warerways. Our students have been working so hard and feel
such a sense of accomplishment and pride at what they have done. We are extremely proud of them.

Our trip is Wednesday. Permission slips have went home and will need to be returned with $6 no later than Tuesday. Parents are welcome to meet us at Waterways and siblings are welcome as well. Just please pay at the booth and tell them you are with CMS. It is very important that you let us know before leaving with your child, so we can always assure the safety and well being of each child.

It is strongly discouraged that any parents bring a student who was not eligible to attend the trip based on the CMS fifth grade trip guidelines. It is unfair to the students who have worked hard and it also sets a bad example for students who do not complete their goals. This trip is a celebration of meeting goals. Again, we are so proud of our students and canโ€™t wait to celebrate their accomplishments.

Our 5th Graders had a wonderful time at Formal! Check out all of these smilesโ€ฆ

Almost 4 weeks ago, every 5th grader planted their own cucumber ๐Ÿฅ’ , tomato ๐Ÿ… , and brussel sprout ๐ŸŒฑ seeds in starter cups. We have become a recently approved 4-H site and the WVU Extension Office along with Dana Wright and Tiffany Bush made sure our students had the necessary supplies/materials to make this small project (of hopefully many) possible.

The students have now requested to plant mammoth pumpkins ๐ŸŽƒ (thank you, Tony Dean, for getting these special seeds for us), sunflowers ๐ŸŒป , as well as corn ๐ŸŒฝ . Students started bringing home some of their established cucumber ๐Ÿฅ’ plants yesterday. Tomorrow they will bring home their tomatoes ๐Ÿ…, and then on Thursday their brussel sprouts ๐ŸŒฑ.

Once we clear some space, we can get our next batch of seeds/crops planted. Iโ€™ve been very proud of the students for reporting on their plant growth๐Ÿ“Š, taking measurements๐Ÿ“, drawing diagramsโœ๏ธ, and especially listening to their learning conversations with each other.

Hopefully these plants make their way to your homes safely, and you can help your child plant them in a safe location. I look forward to seeing the progress as they grow! You can use the hashtag if you happen to post any updates on your plants. ๐Ÿ˜Š

Our plants are happy and thriving!!
Today marks the 1 week post-sowing of our tomatoes ๐Ÿ… , cucumbers ๐Ÿฅ’ , and brussel sprouts ๐ŸŒฑ. Kids are super excited and enjoy watching their growth. Next up to plant will be pumpkins ๐ŸŽƒ , sunflowers ๐ŸŒป , and corn ๐ŸŒฝ.
Today, we took measurements of growth and discussed germination ratesโ€ฆpriceless learning opportunities!!! ๐Ÿ˜Š
