🗓️ Monday, May 11 | RN Refresher Program

The Power of Nursing™ is in supporting nurses at every stage—including their return to practice! NC AHEC is committed to helping more nurses return to the field, opening a variety of career pathways, and investing in their commitment to improve the state of healthcare across North Carolina. Through NC AHEC's RN Refresher Program, nurses who have been out of clinical practice for five or more years, and are ready to re-enter the workforce, can do so conveniently and flexibly. The program, approved by the NC Board of Nursing, consists of 24 self-paced online modules and a 140-hour clinical practicum managed by your local AHEC. For RNs with an active license who are simply seeking to refresh their knowledge, the clinical practicum is optional.

🗓️ Friday, May 8 | Workforce

The Power of Nurses™ starts with a strong workforce! Nurses are regarded as the backbone of our health system. However, there is a critical shortage with approximately 13% of registered nurse (RN) positions in NC currently unfilled. The NC Center on the Workforce for Health, a recent addition to NC AHEC's work, launched a nursing workforce initiative to coordinate action on North Carolina’s persistent nursing shortages and strengthen the pathways and supports for nursing professionals across the state. The Nursing Workforce Coordinating Council (NWCC) is a nurse-led initiative that creates space for nursing workforce leaders to collaborate and guide strategy, inform policy, and ensure a cohesive vision for supporting nurses and the nursing workforce across the state. The Power of Nurses™ starts with education and preparation! NC AHEC is proud to offer a variety of ways for nurses to reinvest in their careers and remain life-long learners. We provide accredited Continuing Professional Development (CPD) to help nurses maintain licensure and specialty certifications. In addition, we have a variety of online and in-person courses that cover everything from clinical skills and emerging technologies to leadership development. We also provide specialty certificates designed for nurses transitioning to or already working in primary care or ambulatory settings.
