SIGN: Tell Governor McCrory to #VetoHB972! In North Carolina this week, the state legislature passed House Bill 972: a bill that gives police departments direct control, and greater discretion, over how and under which circumstances this crucial video footage is released to the public. We have to convince Gov. Pat McCrory to veto the bill --...

Greensboro City Council: Justice for Chieu Di Thi Vo 05/14/2016

Hey y'all sign this petition: Justice for Chieu Di Thi Vo! A mentally ill Vietnamese womxn was recently shot by Greensboro police. The Southeast Asian Coalition and wider community have demanded the following:

"In seeking answers for these questions, we ask for:

1. A review of the Greensboro Police Department's policies and training, regarding discrimination against people of color, neurodivergent, and limited English proficient individuals.

2. All Greensboro police officers should be comprehensively trained in de-escalation tactics, to avoid cases such as Chieu Di's where officers "shoot first, ask later".

3. Greensboro city government act with the humanity of those impacted by such tragedies in mind. No family should ever have to wait this long for closure, and should be treated with respect and empathy by the government officials."

Greensboro City Council: Justice for Chieu Di Thi Vo On May 11th, the Greensboro city council voted to release the body camera footage of Chieu Di Thi Vo's fatal shooting. However, they decided to release it at a press event, with Greensboro Police Chief Wayne Scott preemptively explaining each portion of the video and 911 calls. This is NOT transpare...

Williams College Curricular Planning Committee: Establish Asian American Studies at Williams College We, as Asian American students on this campus, have asked -- for 25 years -- nicely, urgently, passionately, and above all, reasonably, to see ourselves represented in our curriculum. We have faced the burdens of erasure, dehumanization, and overrepresentation: at the forefront in perpetuating these…

Ra(i)ze Vol.2: Devour 04/15/2016

What does it mean that we live in a world swallowed by capitalism? How does the US empire's assimilation bite away at our identities? Why do we never feel "whole"?

We explore questions like these in DEVOUR, RadAsians' SECOND zine! A short one compiling our thoughts and art about expanded notions of food and consumption. CHECK IT OUT Y'ALL.

Ra(i)ze Vol.2: Devour This is our second zine collecting our work about consumption in relation to our Asian-American experience in an attempt to explore our history and origins. We also wanted to complicate the notion of consumption -- to racial violence, capitalism, imperialism, and colonialism. Please sit with us and…

Worker Statements 04/07/2016

Day 7 of Occupation: today we are sharing worker statements. Please share! 'If nothing drastic is done concerning this issue, the next time the outcome could be far worse. Does someone have to die in order for the administration to react?' - Transit Driver

RadAsians stand in solidarity with Duke University workers and the demands made to the administration in light of not only the recent violence from Tallman Trask, but also in light of the violence historically faced by brown and black workers. We refuse to be silent in times of discrimination and abuse of power.

We demand amnesty from all punishment for all student occupiers, as they are attempting to serve as a catalyst for good judgement and honor in a situation where their presence should never have been necessary to begin with.

Faculty question viability of Asian American studies major at Duke 03/30/2016

"Asian Students Association (Duke University), Asian American Alliance and Duke Diya are calling for for Asian American Studies (AAS) at Duke! Solidarity ✊

The demand for AAS was brought up in 2002 by members of the Duke Asian American community resulting in a Center for Asian and Asian American Studies and an eventual faculty hire in AAS. The center dissolved, and the faculty hire either left or was not retained. The demand for AAS was brought up again in 2013 in response to the racist Asian-themed party hosted by the fraternity Kappa Sigma. This time, the ask was for 3 tenure track faulty hires specializing in AAS. This demand was never met. The demand for AAS was reiterated in a community forum this past November and again this past January. The ask has changed now to 4 tenure track faculty hires specializing in AAS with a timeline of one hire every year.

See the 2013 and 2016 (as of January 21, 2016) list of demands here: http://spotlight.duke.edu/…/ASA-AAA-Diya-Student-Demands-1-…

ASA, AAA & Diya are holding a teach-in on these demands next week: https://www.facebook.com/events/970459289712083/"

Faculty question viability of Asian American studies major at Duke Student activists continue to advocate for the creation of an Asian American studies major at Duke, although faculty are uncertain whether there is enough student interest to merit the addition.
