CSAS welcomes writer, composer, and director Sylvester Allen Jr. and professor Belle Boggs (Department of English, NCSU), authors of The Legend of Wyatt Outlaw: From Reconstruction through Black Lives Matter (UNC Press/Ferris & Ferris Books, 2026), in conversation with Gene Nichol (UNC School of Law).

This work recovers the life and 1870 lynching of Outlaw, a prominent Black business owner and leader in the North Carolina Piedmont. Co-sponsored by UNC Press and the Sonja Haynes Stone Center for Research in Black Culture and History.

Join us TOMORROW (11/6) for an exhibit reception with photojournalist Kate Medley, whose photographs from “Thank You Please Come Again: How Gas Stations Feed & Fuel the American South” are on view now through the end of the year.

“Thank You Please Come Again” documents ’s many road trips across the South photographing our service stations, convenience stores, and quick stops. Along the way, Medley pulls over for tamales, fried fish, and banh mi, uncovering the people and landmarks that supply far more than food and gas.
