Happy Labor Day weekend from CHSMA!

This Monday, we celebrate the teachers, staff, students, and families whose hard work, creativity, and dedication make our school community so special.

A reminder that CHSMA is closed Monday, September 7, in observance of Labor Day. We will be open Saturday and Sunday, September 8 and 9.

We’re thrilled to welcome Marianne Cheng to the CHSMA faculty!

Marianne brings an exceptional background as a vocalist, music educator, voice teacher, and music director. She has served on the faculty of Howard University, where she taught voice, music theory, and ear training and served as Musical Theatre Co-Coordinator.

Her performance credits are just as impressive: Marianne has appeared in concert and theatrical settings in both New York and Washington, D.C., and performed backing vocals for the legendary Patti LaBelle with The American Pops Orchestra’s United in Song on PBS.

With experience spanning higher education, musical theatre, contemporary music, and ensemble performance, Marianne brings a tremendous depth of knowledge to her students—and we’re very excited to have her joining our community.

🎵Foundations in Music is coming this September! 🌈

Designed for children ages 2–5, this playful, hands-on class gives young musicians the chance to sing, move, play, explore instruments, build confidence, and make new friends—all with the wonderful Miss Scout!

Our first session begins Wednesday, September 9, and enrollment is now open.

Congratulations to the incredible cast of CHSMA's Summer Broadway in Concert: Matilda the Musical! 🎭🎵

We are so proud of every student who brought their energy, commitment, talent, and courage to the stage. Thank you to all of our families for supporting these young performers throughout the week and for being such an important part of the CHSMA community.

🎉 CHSMA is turning 27!

Today we’re getting to know CHSMA’s owners: Rachel Hall & Dave Tedeschi.

Rachel and Dave took over the school in 2024—the same year they welcomed their daughter!

Before moving to North Carolina, they spent many years in New York teaching and performing professionally.

Today, they’re proud to carry CHSMA’s 27-year legacy forward by supporting its teachers, creating opportunities for students, and continuing to build a school where people can grow through music.

CHSMA is turning 27 years old! 🎶

As we get ready to celebrate, we thought it would be fun to share a few things you may not know about our school—and about the people and ideas that have shaped CHSMA over the past 27 years.

We’re starting with something that has always been at the heart of what we do:

We don’t believe choosing a music teacher should begin with clicking on an open time slot.

Every new student begins with a one-on-one consultation so we can learn about their goals, personality, experience, and what they are looking for in a teacher. With 38 teachers across a wide range of instruments, styles, and personalities, we can then make a thoughtful match.

Because the right teacher can make all the difference.
