All trails in the Carolina North Forest have reopened except for the southwestern section of the Occoneechee Loop, which remains closed. Some areas may still show signs of recent fire activity and fire response efforts, so please use caution, especially on trails on the west side of the forest.
The brush fire in the Carolina North Forest remains contained and continues to be monitored. Hotspots are still smoldering, and smoky conditions may persist for several days. Some trails have also been impacted by fire response efforts.
All trails west of Seawell School Road and the railroad tracks will remain closed through Monday, May 25. Conditions will be reassessed on Tuesday, May 26.
Trails on the east side of the forest remain open. Please respect posted signage and avoid entering closed areas.
A brush fire in the Carolina North Forest has been contained and continues to be monitored. Out of an abundance of caution, all trails west of Seawell School Road are temporarily closed. Please respect posted signage and avoid entering these areas.

Grounds Services has removed a post oak estimated to be over 230 years old outside South Building due to age-related decline. Salvageable wood will live on through the Carolina Tree Heritage program and be transformed into furniture, sculptures and other wooden creations, with proceeds supporting student scholarships.
