Congratulations to the 2026 winner, Shawn Luby MS, MLS(ASCP)CM. The Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) Achievement Award recognizes an MLS professional who has made significant contributions to the MLS community, their institution(s), and the broader field of laboratory medicine. This award honors individuals whose professional service, leadership, and commitment have strengthened the practice, visibility, and impact of medical laboratory science.

While there, Shawn Luby also met some robots and got a chance to connect with Quinn Morgan, who was in attendance as part of the 2026 ALDM Scholars program.

Yesterday’s Tar Heel Tour 2026 was a great success! We welcomed several groups of Career and Technical Education (CTE) teachers to MacNider Hall for a hands-on introduction to the Clinical Laboratory Science (CLS) major and profession.

During their visit, they explored real-world laboratory experiences by examining leukemia, sickle cell disease, and malaria, while also getting hands-on exposure to a urinalysis dipstick test.

A big thank you to everyone who helped make the tour a success and to the dedicated CTE teachers who make a lasting impact on their students every day. We appreciate all that you do!

In the weeks leading up to , we’ll be highlighting the 2026 ADLM Scholars! First up is Quinn Morgan (), a clinical laboratory science student at the University of North Carolina Chapel Hill.

“Throughout my training, I have taken a specific interest in hematology and have noticed right away just how important timely detection and diagnosis is for patients in this specialty. This is particularly evident in cases involving high-risk newborns,” Quinn said.

“The ADLM organization plays a critical role in the advancement of pediatric health screenings worldwide. I am very interested in learning about the innovation of routine panels, and how laboratories around the world are adapting to serve their patient population.”
