Big THANKS to the Chapel Hill-Carrboro Public School Foundation for funding our 2026 grant! “You’ve Been Booked” engaged students across Northside Elementary with a joyful reading experience that got kids TALKING about books being read aloud and sharing their excitement about their favorite across the school and voting on it to determine which book becomes this year’s NC Children’s Book award winner. Spoiler alert: 100 Mighty Dragons All Named Broccoli took the most votes at NES. Time will tell how our votes measure up against others across the state. In addition to the fun of sharing stories aloud across classrooms, students also were able to create a button to advertise their favorite to others across the school. These backpack book buttons kept literacy front and center and started many a conversation around books and stories. We can’t wait to continue this program next year with new titles at the forefront! Thanks again PSF for your generous contribution towards literacy JOY here at Northside. AND thank you Melanie In The Library for the inspiration. ❤️📚🙌🏼 NC School Library Media Association

Get ready for Summer Reading Fun! At the end of the year, the NES Library sent home a summer reading swag bag with every Navigator. This bag includes all the information you need to for the summer months ahead including how you can earn free treats all around town just for reading! Public summer library programs through Chapel Hill Public Library and Orange County Public Library, summer coloring sheets and activity pages along with our very own Traveling Navi the Navigator. Be sure to take him with you on your travels and take a fun picture with him to send to Mrs. Cole (instructions included). If you did not receive a summer reading bag, be sure to swing by Northside and pick one up from the front desk. May we present the Northside Library Book Checkout Champion of 2026! This young 3rd grader led the way with the most books checked out from the library this year with a whopping 209 books borrowed! She stopped in almost daily with a smile and a yearning for something new to read. We hope you enjoy the summer reading swag bag Amelia! .elementary

Our first group of Kindergarten students that opened .elementary in 2013 graduated as seniors this year! A special group of kids that were true Navigators from the very start K-5. They will always have a special place in our hearts and we wish them the absolute BEST in the days ahead. These smiles bring this librarian’s heart so much JOY!

A new tradition has begun in our library. ❤️ As a way to say goodbye to the 5th grade Navigators 🎓… a memory to hold close and a sentiment to guide them forward. Thanks for the awesome idea Mike Rawls (aka The Book Wrangler). 😍

From K-5, they Read with “Navigator” Pride! May we present the Navigators from the Class of 2026 that have been with us since “in-person” Kindergarten. This group of students entered the building for the first time in spring of 2021 after starting their Kindergarten year on a screen. They have grown so much but their love of the library never languished. Wishing this special group of kiddos the absolute best in Middle School. Onward and upward. .elementary

Our library was a BUSY place this year with loads of books checked out. As part of the fun of the EOY season of getting books returned we decided to have some fun with something all the kids are crazy about - NeeDohs! And thanks to librarian Melissa Corey, we had some posters to encourage the fun. Every student who returned all their library books received a raffle ticket. On the last day of school, we raffled off two summer Needoh prize packs. Congratulations to our lucky winners, Zaynab and Abdul Salam. 🎉👏🏼📚 Way to go getting all your books returned as a Northside Community. And not to fret, if you find one hiding over the summer just bring it back home in the fall. ☺️ .elementary
