In 2010, Morrison Residence Hall was named the winner of the 2010 EPA National Building Competition.

Morrison Residence Hall reduced its energy use by over 35% by combining energy efficiency strategies including improved operations and maintenance as well as outreach to dormitory residents. An energy dashboard, displayed on a computer touch-screen monitor in the dormitory's lobby, helped residents keep track of energy consumption.

The largest portion of savings came from improvements to the heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) system and accounted for 33.7% of the 35% savings. It was the combination of HVAC improvements, lighting upgrades, solar water heating, and resident education that propelled Morrison to the winner's podium.
