Meet paloma , our Community and Student Life Leader

Paloma has had an incredible summer traveling across the U.K. and Europe, spending meaningful time with family and friends, and is now preparing to begin a human rights law internship while working on her honors thesis. She feels grateful for these opportunities and is already excited to return to Chapel Hill for senior year, make new memories with LCM, and reconnect with everyone she misses.

Meet , our Faith Formation Leader!

Brooks spent the spring semester studying abroad in London, where he made lasting friendships and had the opportunity to travel to Scotland, Spain, and Switzerland. His time abroad was an incredible experience that allowed him to explore new cultures and perspectives.

This summer, Brooks is interning with the Department of Insurance in the Public Information Office. In this role, he writes press releases and helps coordinate media interviews for the Commissioner of Insurance, gaining hands-on experience in public communications and learning how information is shared with the public through state government.

Since returning home for the summer, Jada has been enjoying a nice balance of work, family time, and catching up with friends from both UNC and back home. She’s been enjoying a fun, relaxing summer and looking forward to the year ahead!

Meet our LCM President,

Since returning home in early May, Gracie has enjoyed a beach trip, including time with LCM at the End-of-Year retreat, and has been spending quality time with family and hometown friends. This summer, she started an internship with a law firm, is continuing a fellowship with the Roosevelt Network, and is studying for the LSAT while looking forward to growing through each new experience!

We started our day off early, with some of us going to a nearby bakery and eating Cruzan treats like raisin rolls, coconut drops, and guava pastries! Then we headed to the pool (which was conveniently located right next to the ocean) and enjoyed the water with the residents of Flamboyant Gardens, an independent living community. We played games like dominoes, partook in dancing, and were blessed with an incredible spread of food prepared by the staff and residents of Flamboyant Gardens. Afterwards, we went to a local ice cream shop where we tried flavors like gooseberry, lemongrass, and guava. We rounded the day off with a fancy dinner, which we enjoyed courtesy of the North Carolina Synod! There, we were joined by some guests of honor…a hummingbird and some wiley cats. 🐈‍⬛

Yesterday LCM headed across the island to Flamboyant Gardens! This retirement home focuses on helping low income individuals thrive in a community based on love. We got the opportunity to design the LSS calendar photos, participate in bingo, paint the buildings of the community center, and make amazing connections with the residents!

From Bobby:
We had another great day at Ginger Thomas accompanying the residence in activities like Lego’s, coloring, puzzles, and fun while also having a group of students working hard on reinforcing their raised gardens! Additionally, in the afternoon we went snorkeling and saw several sea turtles!

In reflecting on the day it taught us not to resist the helping hand of God through a community, love is what you do, and God calls us to love anyone no matter their ability level or life circumstances!

Today was such a beautiful day 🌱✨ We spent the morning gardening at Ginger Thomas, and the staff and residents were truly some of the most welcoming people I’ve ever met
Afterward, Jackie and I went to the beach and explored while the others hiked. literally the perfect way to end the day 🌊☀️

Definitely one of my favorite experiences so far… I’m really loving it here 🫶🏽🫶🏽
