We're just one week away from Pride Week at Carolina! Mark your calendars for April 10th through the 14th and join us to celebrate 🌈Pride Week 2023🌈 In honor of the LGBTQ Center's 20th anniversary, this year's theme is "For connection. For community. For change."
We have a jam-packed week of events in store, all of which are free to attend and focused on LGBTQIA+ history, inclusion, intersectionality, expression, and advocacy. This includes a 20th anniversary art and artifact gallery, Pride in the Pit, a Rainbow Walk at the NC Botanical Garden, and an unforgettable performance by artist and activist Taína Asili. Then, Carolina Pride Alum Network will close out the festivities on Saturday with campus tours and The Story of Us: Oral Histories of LGBTQIA+ Alumni. Visit our Pride Week 2023 page for the complete schedule and details! https://lgbtq.unc.edu/2023/03/24/pride-week-2023/

TOMORROW we celebrate : Carolina’s university-wide day of giving! For 24 hours, alumni, faculty, staff, peers, and other Carolina supporters come together to support the causes they care about most.
Over the last two decades, the LGBTQ Center has provided educational programs, social and community events, direct support services, and advocacy efforts to make UNC-Chapel Hill welcoming for people of all sexual orientations, gender identities, and gender expressions. We have trained over 15,000 people through our Safe Zone program, celebrated LGBTQIA+ graduating students at 12 Lavender Graduation ceremonies, and successfully advocated for inclusive policies that grant students more freedom to express themselves and their identities within the UNC system.
Our ability to offer these programs and services is augmented by the financial support we receive from donors. Help us celebrate 20 years and join us as a partner in this work by participating in GiveUNC on March 28, 2023.

By popular demand, the LGBTQ Center is organizing its first-ever q***r tabletop night, but we can’t make it happen without GMs to run it! Whether you’re a forever-GM or looking for a safe space to test the waters, we have TWO (2) open tables left and any TTRPG system is welcome—from your Honey Heists, Monsters of the Week, and Thirsty Sword Le****ns, to D&D one-shots, Vampire: the Masquerade, and beyond. The event will take place on Friday, March 3rd at 7:00 PM at the Graduate Student Center, but the application for interested GMs is only live for a couple more days!
The event and application are both open to anyone, whether you are student, faculty, staff, or local community member. You do not have to have your session planned in its entirety before you apply, just the system and a brief summary so we can put out the call for player seats in time.
Application due February 11th: https://forms.gle/mpcWb18wV9LqMVtu5

This one is for all the q***r bookworms out there! 🌈 📚 Tonight the LGBTQ Center is kicking off our Spring 2023 Club Sodas with a read-in. We know it can be difficult to carve out space to read for fun once the semester is in full-gear, so we invite folks to bring either their copy of "Cool. Awkward. Black." from our event last Friday, or another book that's been stuck on your TBR for too long, and join us at the LGBTQ Center to read with us from 5:00 to 7:00 PM. Snacks, drinks, and lo-fi beats to study/relax to will be provided ✨️ Blankets and fuzzy socks encouraged!

In honor of Transgender Day of Remembrance on November 20th, the LGBTQ Center at UNC Chapel Hill is hosting a virtual vigil for the duration of Transgender Awareness Week (November 13th - 19th) to celebrate, highlight, and center the lives of our trans and gender-nonconforming comrades: http://bit.ly/3twlBUQ. We invite folks to leave a typed message, recording, short video, or use other available mediums to give voice to the thoughts, feelings, and memories that may be especially apparent during this time.
As with all awareness periods, celebrating and recognizing transgender and gender-nonconforming identities, in addition to acknowledging and dismantling the disproportionate amount of social and physical violence inflicted on these communities, should never be limited to a single day, week, or month. However, this week is an opportunity for folks to reflect, raise awareness, and increase support and advocacy efforts for our trans and gnc community members who still walk, march, breathe, live, and thrive with us.
If you are a trans or gnc person in crisis, the Trans Lifeline, which is run by the trans community, for the trans community, can be reached at: (877) 565-8860. For more information, please visit https://translifeline.org/

TODAY from 4:00 to 5:00 PM at the Graduate Student Center (211A W Cameron Ave), the LGBTQ Center and Student Wellness are collaborating to offer a workshop geared for LGBTIQIA+ identified graduate students. This workshop features guest speakers Danny DePuy (MSW) and Ari Thomas, and it aims to promote an understanding that wellness is a holistic idea that is fluid and ever-changing. The Dimensions of Wellness Workshop includes a personal reflection of our own wellness, building skillsets to cope with multiple stressors, and learning about available resources. The hope is to gain a deeper capacity for thriving during student life at UNC. Snacks and resources provided. We hope to see you there!

The LGBTQ Center and QGAPS will be hosting social gatherings for Graduate & Professional students on the 1st and 3rd Thursdays of each month, as an opportunity for community-building, collaboration, and reflection! We will be meeting outside of Weaver Street Market in Carrboro as the sun sets, eating our favorite snacks, and engaging in a crafting activity to reflect on what "seeds" (or goals) we are planting this semester, "pests" (or challenges) we expect to face, "sunshine" (or resources) that are available to us, and "rain" (or community) to nourish our "roots." Come meet new friends, collaborators, and comrades to scheme about how to make our collaborative dreams come true!
