Happy 2026 from Lupine Community School🏫! Through ice and snow, we continue to make construction progress - take a peek 👀!
-Dry Creek Bed/Landscaping 🪨
Our property has a TON of rock and our graders have been busy putting them to good use! We filled areas of the farm to create two beautiful dry creek beds and used larger boulders for climbing structures on our playground and beyond areas, as well as decorative pieces.
-Fencing & Parking ⚒️
Our wood fence is complete along the parking lot and down the field to Smith Level Rd. for optimal safety and aesthetic! The parking area has been leveled as well and will soon be ready for all your vehicles.
-Painted Original Barn 🎨
Our original barn building has fresh paint to coordinate with the existing buildings and new color scheme.
-New Driveway Entrance - Closed Old One 🛑
The old entrance is officially closed and we have a fresh entrance on Damascus Church Rd. with better visibility and a stop sign. A new privacy gate will be installed soon, too.
-Photos of Ferdinand 🐂
Our baby bull calf, Ferdinand, is doing well in Virginia and will be ready to join the farm in a few weeks. Photos attached!
-Well, Water Filtration, & Access Road 💦
Our well and water filtration system (and all the other bells and whistles that went along with it) are all installed. Testing and final details will be completed as soon as we’re electrified!
-Playground Materials 🪵
We have boulders, trees from Bartlett Tree and several hand-built mud kitchens all ready for our natural playground. We’re hoping to get that arranged as soon as the weather cooperates.
-Concrete Walkway & Parking ✅
Our concrete walkway and parking spaces off the modular are complete and ready. This was a required step for ADA compliance.

Today is and this post is testament to what can be accomplished when we all pull together! In just 11 months, your generous support has allowed us to transform an old horse farm into a truly unique nature-based elementary school on a working farm - WOW! Now, as we sprint toward the finish line, we need your support more than ever.
As always, all donations made to the Lupine Community School go directly to our 501(c)(3) non-profit projects and are tax deductible. We are immensely grateful for your support, all donations are impactful: https://www.gofundme.com/f/jcxwq-lcs-fundraiser or feel free to reach out directly!
Here is quick update (and fun photos) from the last two weeks on the farm:
-Animals 🐐
Over the weekend we welcomed a few more friends: two goats and two pigs! Our three sheep and additional goat will be joining us soon. And one more special surprise coming in February!
-Classrooms 🛠️
Skirting around the classrooms finished this week and will landscape around this area soon. As mentioned, stay-tuned for upcoming opportunities to get your hands dirty 🙂!
-Building Paint Refresh🤩
The art barn, storage shed and enclosures all had a paint refresh and will coordinate with the well house and run-in shed in the pasture. The original large barn will be repainted in the next couple weeks as well. Stay-tuned for updates on the barn and barn space!
-Trenches filled 🕳️
Aside from a few holes left for the electricians, all the plumbing trenches are filled and the space is looking less and less under construction and more like a beautiful school! We anticipate grading to occur later in the week as well.
-Painted fence 🎨
Our metal privacy fence is painted an earthy cream (cremini mushroom)! Murals and fun art to follow.
-Preschool nook 🌳
The large covered shed in the back nook is cleaned, cleared and ready to serve as an unofficial nook for our preschoolers. Over the next few weeks we will fill this space with racks of loose parts, a sandbox, mud kitchen and all the special items that make Lupine magical!

📢LCS Progress Update📢
-Furry friends moving in 🫏
Over the last few weeks many of our furry friends moved onto the farm! So far we’ve welcomed five chickens, two rabbits, our mini donkey (Georgie), our mini Pony (Mr. B, for now) and Lester - our rooster. In the coming weeks we’ll welcome the rest of our crew: three goats, three sheep, two pigs and more chickens! And another little surprise friend will join us in February… stay-tuned. Also, you’ll notice a new run-in shed in the pasture for the animals to enjoy.
-Classrooms set & ADA ramps and stairs complete 🏫
We’re excited to announce that our modular classrooms have been set and all necessary ADA ramps and stairs are complete. It’s looking more official by the day! Up next: modular skirting and landscaping around the building.
-Plumbing complete and electrical lines run ⚡
Another less glamorous milestone - our plumbing and electrical lines have been run. We’re just waiting for the final inspection!
-Well update 💧
Our wellhouse is now complete and the final phase of the well process (the water filtration system) will start in the coming days.
-Property beautification and clean-up 🪻
The construction crews have been working hard but many side projects are in the works, too! What we're up to:
-we received donations from Rachel’s Native Plates (more on the way)
-we planted five additional trees along Damascus Church Rd. for increased privacy and natural aesthetic, planning on more soon
-w**d whipping, debris clearing and garbage collecting
- 7 heavy-duty picnic tables spread throughout the property
We're hoping to have a larger work crew out there (with bigger machinery) for heavy lifting and rapid beautification . Stay-tuned for volunteer opportunities!
-LCS office space 💻
Another small, yet vital part of our school: the LCS office! Amy has been working to create a sweet, light-filled nook that will serve as an official office with beautiful views of the property (and frolicking children and animals)!

Join us as we collect non-perishable items that PORCH will deliver to families and pantries throughout our Chapel Hill-Carrboro community

📢LCS Building Progress Update📢
-Classrooms are here 🙌
The classrooms were delivered last week - awaiting final placement and approval! Stay-tuned for photos.
-Animal playground and enclosures are nearly COMPLETE 🪜
These enclosures go above and beyond, and will be a unique place for our animals and students to interact each day. Look at those climbing structures!
-Friends eagerly awaiting their new home! 🐔
A few snapshots of the animal friends who will be moving in over the next two weeks. These chickens (and many others!) will be joining the crew, in addition to those in the coop at our temporary location.
-Well updates 💦
Our well permit was approved - aka, we are now authorized to construct the well filtration system. We’re hoping for smooth sailing moving forward!
-Curated spaces 🌼
With the largest projects underway and taking shape, we’re busy brainstorming how to beautify all our little nooks and special spaces. Stay-tuned for more on these spaces - unique rock formations, rolling “beyond” space, and natural play areas just to mention a few.
-Art barn stocked 🎨
Over break staff worked hard to stock and organize our art barn space. It will be an inspiring space - no doubt!
-Animal pastures in-progress 🐐
Pasture space is ready for happy, frolicking animals! We will have approximately an acre of animal pasture adjacent to the barn, running along Damascus Church Rd.
-Gazebo refresh 🌞
We envision our gazebo, a centerpiece on the property, as a gathering place at LCS. Last week old wood was replaced, along with new stairs and rock edging. Next week we plan to sand and restain!

👀LCS progress update! Our beautiful farm is transforming before our eyes👀
-Beautiful animal enclosures are wrapping up! 🐐🐷
These enclosures will house our goats, pigs, chickens (resident rooster!), turkeys and bunnies. You'll find these animals near the front of our property each day.
-Handcrafted chicken and bunny coop is in action ☑️
This coop was delivered to our temporary location last week and will move with us to our permanent location. This coop will be located farther down the property within our orchard and natural play area to compliment the larger enclosures near the main entrance.
-Our art barn is taking shape 🎨🖍️
A creative space to get messy within one of our original farm buildings. You won't want to miss upcoming pictures of this fun space!
-Privacy fencing 🪻
We've made significant progress on enclosing our space to keep little bodies in and plant-eating friends (deer) out. Check back for fencing beautification!
-Septic 🚽
Less exciting but no less important ;). It was no easy feat but our septic system is complete and ready to handle our crew!
-Large, wrap around gravel driveway! 🚛🪨
Again, not the most glamorous project but one that will ensure the safety of our students and make for a smooth drop-off and pick-up experience!
-Beyond Vistas 🌳
Gorgeous vistas overlooking our "beyond" area. What a view!
Stay tuned and, if you haven't, follow us for upcoming progress reports!
