“How do I know if dyslexia intervention is actually working?”
That is one of the most common questions parents ask after their child begins reading intervention.
Many parents expect progress to look dramatic and immediate. But real dyslexia progress is often much more gradual than people expect.
Sometimes the earliest signs of growth are:
• less guessing
• stronger decoding
• more confidence
• less frustration
• greater willingness to try difficult reading
Some students progress quickly. Others need much more repetition and support before reading skills become automatic. Both can still reflect meaningful progress.
In my newest blog post, I explain:
✔ what real dyslexia progress actually looks like
✔ why students progress at different rates
✔ how skilled interventionists measure growth
✔ why slow progress does not automatically mean intervention is failing

You’ve researched programs. Hired tutors. Attended school meetings. Spent money trying to help your child read.
But what happens when your child is still struggling and nothing seems to be working?
This week, I spoke with a parent whose child had already worked with multiple tutors, tutoring centers, and even a dyslexia center. After all of that effort, she still felt confused about why her child was not making meaningful progress.
When I reviewed the evaluation, it became clear that the issue was not a lack of effort from the parent or child. The intervention simply was not aligned with the student’s actual reading profile.
As a reading specialist and certified Wilson Dyslexia Practitioner, I see this pattern often. Many parents are trying incredibly hard to help their children, but they are making important decisions while overwhelmed, under-informed, and afraid of losing valuable time.
In my newest blog post, I discuss:
✔ Common myths about dyslexia help
✔ Objections that keep families stuck
✔ Costly mistakes that delay progress
✔ What parents should actually look for in intervention
What do you think is the biggest misconception parents have about dyslexia intervention or tutoring?

Many parents feel relief after finally getting a dyslexia diagnosis for their child.
Then school meetings begin, and suddenly everything feels confusing.
IEP
504 Plan
RTI
MTSS
Specific Learning Disability
Accommodations
Intervention
It can feel like learning an entirely new language.
One of the things parents tell me most often is:
"I feel like I need a law degree just to understand how to help my child."
The truth is, you do not need to become a legal expert to advocate for your child. You just need clear information and the right questions to ask.
In my newest blog post, I break down:
🔹 The difference between an IEP and a 504 plan
🔹 Why schools may use the term Specific Learning Disability instead of dyslexia
🔹 What accommodations actually help students with dyslexia
🔹 When school support may not be enough
My goal is to help parents feel more confident and less overwhelmed as they navigate school support.

Choosing a dyslexia tutor or reading program can feel overwhelming.
I’ve talked with many parents who spent months, and sometimes thousands of dollars, on tutoring before realizing their child wasn’t making meaningful progress.
The problem usually isn’t a lack of effort. Many parents simply aren’t told what questions to ask before choosing intervention.
In my newest blog, I share 6 important questions every parent should ask before hiring a dyslexia tutor or choosing a reading program:
✅ What training and qualifications do you have?
✅ How do you determine my child’s starting point?
✅ What exactly will you teach my child?
✅ What approach or program do you use and why?
✅ What does a typical lesson look like?
✅ How will you measure progress?
These questions can help families avoid costly mistakes and find intervention that is structured, research-based, and individualized for their child’s needs.
