Who agrees: Until the murder weapon is found which matches what was used to cowardly murder Associate Professor Dr. Zijie Yan, school should not commence. We don’t know 100% if there is anyone else involved. Our children (or students as some may prefer not to label them children, but mine will always be “my children” no matter how old), professors, and all staff’s safety should be the #1 concern. Also, our Carolina community has been traumatized. I believe more than 1.5 days off is definitely needed. With an over $5 billion endowment, time to put that money to work to make sure all doors can be locked, cameras everywhere, etc. I am very thankful the school has given the students the past few days to process everything and has also given much info and resources for students struggling. There will also be police presence on campus to help the students feel safe. This, unfortunately is a sober reminder that this can happen anywhere at anytime. Please remember to live each day to the fullest, be thankful, be mindful, never go to bed angry, love one another, and keep peace. I never thought this would happen where my son attends school as I am sure you all agree. Please keep Professor Yam’s family in your thoughts and prayers! God Bless you all!
