Through WBL, students gain real-world experience, build career skills, and explore future opportunities—all while still in high school. Each month, we’ll spotlight a student who is making the most of this opportunity, sharing a little about where they work, what they’ve learned, and some fun facts along the way. 🙌

Students toured the Nursing Program at Pittsburg State University. They were able to practice giving shots, inserting the NG tube, learned about the ROTC program, heard from actual nursing students in a Q and A session, saw the simulation hospital, and more. We even got to see a former CHS grad. Riley will be graduating in May and will be starting her first Nursing job in July.

🌿 In Culinary Arts, we’ve been busy! Today, students planted the herbs they started growing last week. 🌱 Soon, the students will get to take their herbs home and use them in their own delicious dishes! 🍽️🌿

Culinary Arts 2 Update! 🧑‍🍳🍞

Our students have been hard at work in the kitchens, and the results are simply delicious! Yesterday, they prepared homemade butter from scratch, and it looks amazing. 🧈 This fresh, creamy butter will be the perfect pairing for their sourdough, which is currently maturing. We can't wait to taste the final product!

Proud of our Project Lead the Way Completers. They were awarded their white coats today. Bella Barney, Jadyn Ellsworth, Peyton Shields, Zoie Speaks, Alice Griffith, Faith Fewins, and Darah Dean. We wish them the best of luck in their future!

I went into this year thinking 2024 would be a bit of a rebuilding year for our journalism program. We graduated some experienced, talented journalists the year before, and we were going to have a number of new faces on staff. And while we have certainly had to learn and grow a great deal, these kids once again rocked the KSPA State Journalism Contest.

Producing some incredible entries this year, Chanute High School earned another top-two finish. We had four individual state champions, four state runner-ups, three third-place finishes, and another 13 state placers (24 state placers overall). All told, we fell six points short of the state title, but for a group that included 13 first-time state qualifiers I’m left with nothing but pride for what they accomplished this year and excitement for next year.

Mrs. Ruark’s class invited our Leadership students in to have a sweet snack after the second grade activity day. It was a great way to conclude our day.

Students from Mr. Fox’s Leadership class led an activity day for second grade students today. Activities included color tag, tic tac toe, red light green light, tug of war, relay races, and cup grab.
