We're just a couple weeks out from our annual art show! π¨
The children have been working on various pieces throughout the year and are so excited to share them with family and friends.
On March 23rd we'll display their work along the front fence for viewing. (Weather permitting!)
We hope to see you there and we hope you enjoy all the amazing artwork! π

Another day of creativity from our toddler room!
Just give them a piece of paper, some paint, and any object (we like toy trains π and cars π), and see what they come up with!
It's the simplest things in life that capture children's attention and keep them engaged and entertained, all while making little discoveries.
As always, end the activity with genuine interest in their creation and positive reinforcement, and continue to watch them grow! π«

Today is the first day of Women's History Month, and what better way to kick things off than with a tribute to Maria Montessori! π
Founder of the Montessori education, Maria is a pioneer and an icon in our world.
She was an Italian physician, educator, and innovator, acclaimed for her methods that build on the way children naturally learn.
Over the years, Maria attracted many devotees and it's because of her that there are thousands of Montessori schools around the world. π

Rubber band work is great for building muscle memory and concentration. π§
It seems like a simple task, but at this age their hand strength is still developing, as well as their hand-eye coordination.
We start with the least-resistance bands and gradually increase resistance, adding multiple colors as time goes on.
A fun and easy way to improve their skills!

Screw on, screw off! π©
Yet another easy activity to help strengthen their fine motor skills.
It doesn't require much to fine-tune those skills. Simple activities like this will benefit them greatly as they grow and do more things for themselves!

π It's National Library Lover's Month! π
We love encouraging children to dive into literature and experience all the adventure that awaits.
At this young age, their imaginations are so vivid and vibrant, and reading only nourishes their ability to soak up new worlds, characters, and experiences.
Celebrate Library Lover's Month by visiting your local library with your family and share in the adventure together!

Sometimes a little encouragement and independence can go a long way! π
Doing things for themselves helps your child gain a sense of accomplishment while growing their self esteem.
Keep pushing them to try things on their own! These are skills that will last a lifetime.

Today's Tip β‘οΈ Keep items low to the ground, so children can reach for things themselves.
This accessibility allows them to lean into their curiosity and explore safely.
Books are one of the most important items we keep out. π Even though our infants can't read quite yet, having books (literally) at their fingertips does make a difference in their overall learning.
Start them young and watch them grow! π

If you're looking for a school that nurtures curiosity and independence, you've come to the right place! π
Montessori was founded on the principles that children are naturally curious. Our purpose is to raise children to be lifelong learners, who will pursue their goals passionately and effectively.
If you have any questions, or would like to come in for a school tour, you can call us at 703-722-2400 or visit us online to schedule an appointment.
As spring approaches, we'll be starting enrollment for the 2023/2024 school year, so we hope to see you very soon!

When it doubt, keep it simple. β¨
A task is basic as color matching objects can keep a child engaged and learning without any fancy tools.
(She's doing a pretty great job if you ask us! π)

An important day in our country's history, and in our school! π
We always designate a special lesson about Martin Luther King Jr. for the children, and it's something we all look forward to every year.
There's still a lot to learn, but we'll continue to share and honor his legacy.
Enjoy this day and reflect!

Is spending more time with your family one of your New Year's resolutions?
National Sunday Supper Month is a great way to start!
Celebrated every January, this is an easy way to create traditions that reconnect family and friends over a good meal.
Plus, it's a great opportunity to get your kids in the kitchen for meal prep, cooking, and cleanup! π
Drop a π½ if you plan on taking part in Sunday suppers this month.

Our sandpaper letter lesson! π
The purpose of the sandpaper letters is to teach each child the sounds of the alphabet.
The child is encouraged to trace the symbol over and over again until the shape of the letter becomes a part of the child's muscle memory.
Plus: This is a great activity to try at home to help strengthen their skills!

Throwing it back to 2022 with Holiday Hair Day! π

Raising children truly takes a village. β€οΈ
We all play a crucial part in who our children become, so let's do this together.

Rule #1: There are no rules! π
Self-expression is crucial for the development of a child's identity, self-confidence, and sense of belonging to the world. That's why we always keep things as creative as possible in our classrooms.
Self-expression helps children communicate their feelings in a positive way, opening their minds and allowing them to form thoughts and ideas that may surprise us β and them!

What is sensory play?
Sensory play is an exploration through touch, smell, vision, hearing, and taste.
In our Montessori environment, we have a sensory table that changes from wet to dry activities depending on the day.
Currently, we have all types of beans that are colored green, blue, red, and yellow. Itβs very exciting seeing the toddlers say their colors out loud.
Another popular activity is color sorting where the children match the colors with two different items.
Such a simple concept that keeps the children engaged and learning for hours!
12/05/2022
December may be a short month around here, but we have so much to celebrate! β¨
In the next two weeks, we'll be learning all about the different holidays of the season, including Hanukkah, Christmas, and Kwanza.
There are so many holidays celebrated throughout the world and right here where we live, so it's important to us to teach the children about the different cultures and traditions β and that's where you come in!
If any parents would like to come in and share their holiday traditions with the children, we'd love to have you. Just let us know and we'll schedule a time!
12/01/2022

Starting at a new school can be nerve-racking for children β and parents, too! π
But if there's ever any fear or anxiety, rest assured we'll always let you know how your child's doing and progressing.
Your children are like our children; we treat them like family and only want the best for them.
Thank you for trusting us with your son! We love having him here. π

November is the month of thankfulness β and we have so much to be grateful for! π
We're thankful for all our families, our amazing staff, our health, and good fortune, but most of all, for being a part of each child's life.
Knowing we played a small part in who they become is something we never take for granted.
So, tell us: What are you thankful for this holiday season?
11/14/2022
Why is everything kept low to the ground in our infant rooms? πΆ
To encourage self-exploration!
As infants eventually begin to crawl, we keep a watchful eye on them, but we also let them explore and figure things out for themselves. We find this is the best way to learn!
If you're thinking of trying this setup in your own home, remember: Less is more.
Keep their options light because too many become overwhelming β and it's more to clean up later!
11/11/2022
Today we honor all the brave men and women who have served our great nation!
Thank you for your service. πΊπΈ

The children have been busy this fall!
As we gear up for the holidays, we'll be learning about seasons, the meaning of Thanksgiving, and creating our Tree of Thankfulness π β a beloved annual activity!
We love this tradition because it encourages the children to think of what they appreciate most in their lives.
Kids are so busy learning and exploring that they don't take the time to reflect and consider what there is to be thankful for. It's because of this that our Tree of Thankfulness is a favorite activity each and every year!
11/03/2022
It's time to mark your calendars! π
We have picture day coming up, as well as Thanksgiving break!
(Can you believe the holidays are already here?! This school year is flying by!)
Towards the end of November we'll be opening up sign-ups for parent/teacher conferences, so keep an eye out for that important information.
Thank you for being a part of our Curious Minds Family. Let's keep this amazing school year going!
