Our percussion teachers Chris, Ben, Claudia and Paul hung out with the 7th grade percussion class at Franklin Middle today, and demonstrated some marching, orchestral and drumset concepts. Big thanks to everyone for listening and asking such great questions, and to Mrs. Magwire for having us!

Why try an instrument? Because music builds more than skill. It builds discipline. Listening. Patience. Confidence. It teaches students how to struggle productively — and succeed publicly.

🎻 We’ve seen shy kids find their voice.
🎻 We’ve seen busy students learn focus.
🎻 We’ve seen families connect over practice and performance.

You don’t have to know if your child will “stick with it.” You just have to give them the chance to begin.

👉That’s where we come in.

Mark your Calendars for our upcoming Instrument petting zoo for kids and adults.

🗓️ Saturday, June 3, 2026, from 10 AM to 4 PM

Drop by the shop. Touch the instruments. Play the instruments. Fall in love with music.

Yebin remembers when she first started lessons with our Director of Education several summers ago, seeing the “Student of the Month” photos and thinking “I wonder if one day that could be me?” Turns out, yes it could--she is our Vanguard Student of the Month for June.

Yebin hit the ground running in August of 2024, after trying out drums during Franklin Band Camp, and hasn’t looked back since. So far, she’s participated in two seasons of our Winter Percussion Ensemble, played in three recitals, and this summer is thinking about trying out saxophone and voice lessons before she starts middle school. Although drumset is her passion, lessons at Vanguard have also helped Yebin develop her sight-reading abilities, her mallet chops, and her overall confidence for auditions and performances.

When she’s not playing drums, you can find Yebin singing or dancing along to her favorite kpop groups like Enhypen, Babymonster, Le Sserafim and Cortis. Her teacher Ben says “You won’t meet too many people who are as consistently excited as Yebin is about all things music. Her attitude is always super positive and contagious.” --Bravo, Yebin!
