Dr. Muhs has been in ECE for 35 years and she has been with Rasmussen since 2010. She earned Doctor of Education in ECE in 2022 focusing her dissertation on “Family Childcare Providers’ Perspectives on Participating in Quality Improvement Using National Association for Family Child Care Accreditation”. Dr. Muhs is the published author of “Family Engagement in Early Childhood Programs Quick Guide”

with Redleaf Press and is a recognized Exchange Leader subject matter expert with Exchange Press. Mary has also earned the MACMH-IEC Endorsement® as an Infant Family Specialist and the Relationship Based Professional Development (RBPD) Credential in MN. Dr. Muhs has just begun a term as a Member-at-Large with the National Association for Family Child Care Board of Directors, but over the years, she has held past leadership roles with the Minnesota Licensed Family Child Care Association and MnAEYC-MnSACA Board of Directors. In addition, she was a participant in the creation of the Minnesota Knowledge and Competency Framework for Family Child Care. Dr. Muhs has participated as a presenter for numerous national and local conferences covering topics related to family engagement, leadership, ethics, active learning, and children’s mental health for professionals in both family childcare and center-based programs.

Theme of the Week: Mindfulness for Early Educators
Now that the "school year" is well underway and with an extremely busy time of year ahead of us, taking time to enjoy your job as an early educator takes a back seat to meeting standards, answering questions, paperwork, and managing many individual behaviors! Do you even take a moment to stop and realize the special importance of you in the lives of the young children in your program? Do you breathe before you act or react? This resource from ZERO TO THREE is short and sweet- reminding us to STOP when feeling overwhelmed, stressed in order to refocus and be intentional. We need to remember to STOP- not just to smell the roses, but to be mindful of our actions and reactions.
