Sparking big ideas with local power! ⚡️

Huge thanks to the Salt River Project for visiting our school today to bring energy education to life. From understanding how power plants work to mapping out circuits and exploring renewable vs. non-renewable resources, our students got a hands-on look at what keeps our community running.

Nothing beats seeing science move off the screen and into the classroom! ☀️🚴‍♂️🔌

Kindergarteners wrapped up their Five Senses Knowledge Domain with an exciting class swap, filled with hands-on learning! ✋👅👃👁️👂

Students used their senses to investigate a variety of experiments, including a scratch and sniff activity, a color-mixing experiment, and a taste test. They also created sound tubes to explore how different sounds are made and experienced. What a fun lesson! 📚🌱

This week at Mirada we held Parent Connect Night for parents of students in Kindergarten through second grade. Buddies met for the first time between Kindergarten Mrs. Williams’ class and second grade Mrs. Garabedian’s class.

We are proud to share that Mirada has earned the Arizona PBIS Coalition's highest recognition—Level 4: Tier 1, 2 & 3 Fidelity Award! This distinction recognizes our school's integrated implementation of a comprehensive PBIS structure that supports our students at all levels.

Even more exciting, Mirada is one of only thirteen Kyrene schools, and one of just fifty schools statewide to earn this level of recognition! This award reflects the efforts of our amazing staff to create an uplifting, diverse, and inclusive learning environment where all students can thrive.

National Abacus Day is celebrated on August 8th, so the Williams World Changers started today by making their own abacus, thank you to Jennifer Guzy! On Monday, they will use them to learn to add and subtract with regrouping.

We had a great time at our Watch D.O.G.S. Kickoff event last night! Thank you to all who attended and signed up to volunteer, and to our amazing Kyrene de la Mirada Leadership Academy PTO for providing yummy pizza. As a reminder, if you have signed up to volunteer, check in with your students at the front office at 7 a.m. for a photo, plan to stay at school until the end of the day, and bring your driver’s license, lunch money, a water bottle, and running shoes.

The Watch DOGS initiative aims to include positive male role models in students’ lives and academic experiences, especially for those who might not have one at home. Past volunteers describe feeling like “Superman for the day” and “heroes of the hallways,” emphasizing the impact of simply showing up for their children and others.
