Guitar & Bass Lessons with Bret Helm

Guitar & Bass Lessons with Bret Helm Private guitar & bass lessons in the Phoenix East Valley (Chandler, Gilbert, Tempe, Mesa) + beyond. My name is Bret Helm. A little bit about me. About my lessons.

I'm a professional musician with over 25 years experience in performing, songwriting and teaching. I've been teaching private guitar and bass lessons in Arizona at a music store that services the East Valley (Chandler, Tempe, Gilbert and Mesa) for over 12 years now. Over the years, I've had hundreds of students, from age 5 to 75, walk through my door - some of them have went on to have successful

musical careers (Jimmy Eat World), others have recorded their own solo albums, joined bands or played their favorite songs for family & friends. I first hit the stage in 1991 - since then I've appeared on over 50 albums, toured all over the United States & Europe (with bands like AFI, Peter Murphy, Concrete Blonde, etc), published around 50 original songs, and even have had some of my own music played on MTV. What I love about music most is the ability to share it with others. I absolutely love to teach. I focus on what you want to learn - Guitar (electric, acoustic) or Bass Guitar. If you want to learn how to read music, play your favorite songs or even write your own songs - then that's what we'll focus our attention on. All styles welcome - from rock to country to jazz and everything in between. My teaching studio is at a music store in Chandler, Arizona - so you don't have to worry about going to someone's house, or having someone come to your house. Classes are private, one-on-one sessions and current rates are $20 per 30-minute lesson. It's never too late to start learning.

Private guitar & bass lessons in the Phoenix East Valley (Chandler, Gilbert, Tempe, Mesa). Professional recording artist with over 25 years experience.

I've had hundreds of guitar & bass students over the last 14 years. Some take lessons for a short time, while others are still with me since the beginning. My students are like a second family, and I am absolutely devastated to hear of the passing of my bass student and friend - Bob Demar. He was a father, a retired USAF officer and a wonderful guy. A little over a week ago we were having a blast working on a Jack White song together. I am still in shock that when I walk out of my studio when it's time for his regular lesson on Thursday, he won't be sitting there waiting, smiling with bass in hand. Bob, you'll be greatly missed. Rest in peace, my friend.

It's always a treat to work on the Red Hot Chili Peppers' version of the Stevie Wonder tune with a bass student. One of the greatest cover songs out there -and one of the first songs I learned to play on bass many moons ago.
