It's easy to think of AI as just another technology tool, but its impact goes much deeper. AI is reshaping how information is created, shared, and used across nearly every industry.

For education, this means moving beyond conversations about apps and devices to focus on how students learn to think critically, evaluate information, adapt, and make sound decisions while working alongside intelligent systems. Preparing students for that reality starts today.

As we begin our journey through Chapter 1 of Arizona's AI Guidance: A Call for AI Literacy, we're starting with the big picture.

Why is AI becoming such an important conversation in education? Why does it matter now? And what role should schools play in preparing students for a future where AI is part of everyday life?

This chapter isn't about tools, apps, or technology trends. It's about readiness, human potential, and the decisions we make today to prepare students for tomorrow. Along the way, we'll explore why AI literacy matters, why this guidance was created, and why the most important skills for the future may be the ones that make us uniquely human.
