Being a mom requires SO MUCH from our bodies. When we’re trying to “get smaller”, we can’t afford to take harsh measures that drain our energy and make us feel crappy. We need to take care of our bodies, not cut calories and do intense cardio all the time.

I’m here to tell you there is a right way to lose fat without starving yourself and going to the gym 5 days a week.

When you focus on being healthy by building muscle and getting stronger, you will feel amazing and see results along the way.

So chase what matters most - a healthy, strong body.

Meal prepping is the key to healthy eating throughout the week, but I know it can be hard to find time to meal prep.

The good news is, you don’t have to dedicate a whole day to meal prepping each week! Instead, you can gradually meal prep by batching food when you’re making daily meals throughout the week.

✨Cook extra when making dinner so you have leftovers ready for a quick lunch.

✨If you’re making eggs for breakfast, cook extra so you don’t have to cook again tomorrow.

✨If you’re cutting veggies for your lunch or dinner, cut some more for a quick snack for the week.

✨If you’re making a stew, double up your ingredients and put half in the freezer for a quick meal on another day.

1: What matters most is showing up and staying consistent, even when you have low energy or not as much time.

2: No one is watching you!! And if they are it’s okay, they’re not going to eat you. I promise you’re safe.

3: No one cares if you show up looking nice in cute clothes and makeup, or you’re wearing an oversized shirt, messy bun, and a naked face. Wear whatever you feel most comfortable in.

4: No one cares what exercises you’re doing. Everyone has their own programming to follow so the exercises will sometimes look different. That’s normal. Do your thing.

5: EVERYONE is there to work hard and improve themselves. They know how hard it is to show up all the time. They know how hard it is to stay disciplined. So if they are looking at you, they’re probably thinking “nice job showing up, I know it’s not easy”.

To the mom who struggles with gym fears:
Ask yourself, what is making you feel unsafe?

Fear is a normal response to dangerous and uncertain situations. It’s your body’s/mind’s way of ensuring your safety.

So when gym fears arise, ask yourself: what is this fear coming from? What about the gym is making you feel unsafe?

People judging you?
Looking stupid?
Low self-confidence?

Now ask yourself, are these true safety issues? Is your life actually in danger by any of these things? How so? What’s the worst that could happen? How likely is that to happen? (Dig deep on these!)

You might find that these are actually just irrational fears that you’re creating to protect your pride, not your safety. So when you’re feeling that fear creep up while you’re in the gym or contemplating joining a gym, have the conversation with yourself. Are they valid fears to protect my life, or is this just me protecting my pride and ego? Should I let these feelings dictate my health and fitness journey?

Does the gym make you nervous?
I once was scared of the gym too…

I knew the home workouts weren’t the best option for me. I was too distracted, the workouts were always interrupted, I struggled to stay consistent, and I just didn’t enjoy my workouts. I really wanted to workout in the gym so I could be more focused and get some results, so I went for it and tried to figure it out.

My early days in the gym were a messy start. I spent too much time doing too many random exercises. I wasn’t really seeing any progress and I caused myself to get overly sore. I felt insecure and lost. I relied on Instagram workouts for guidance, but still had no idea what I was doing. I remember being so self-conscious that people were watching and judging me.

But once I learned from professionals, my confidence grew and I finally got the results I wanted! All I needed was guidance from people who knew more than me. Then, with practice, I became familiar with gym equipment and gradually became more confident. Now, I love the gym!

The problem for most moms is that they are intimidated by the gym. They want to workout in a gym, but they worry people are watching and judging, they’re overwhelmed and confused on what to do, and they just don’t feel confident. So, they avoid it and try to do the home workouts with little success, and eventually the frustration leads them to stop working out all together.

When I started going to the gym years ago, I was like most 23 year olds anxious to start looking “shredded”.

I was desperate to look like the fit girls I saw on social media, so desperate that I took harsh measures.

🚩I would spend 2 hours/4 days a week at the gym to the point of excessive soreness, on top of the 15 hours I spent in dance classes and rehearsals.
🚩I was eating very little, low quality foods.
🚩I was taking questionable fat-loss pills and other random supplements.
🚩I wasn’t getting a lot of sleep (I would literally be taking naps in between classes).

Sure I leaned out, but I didn’t realize how sick I looked and felt. I was breaking out, I couldn’t recover between workouts, my dance performance was declining, my moods were unstable, I struggled to focus in class, and the saddest part is I was hardly present for my 5 year old son! These are all RED FLAGS.

Fast forward to today (2 kids later), I’m so much healthier and I still love my body for how it looks even though I’m not as lean as I was back then. Instead of feeling insecure, now I am truly confident in my body!

It took time, but I realized I don’t need to kill myself to be lose fat and be healthy! I’ve decided I want to live a fulfilled life and be present with my kids, and I can do that with the right approach to fitness and health.

can burn us out real fast… especially when the temps go up like they do here in Phoenix 🥵

When schedules get hectic, mom-brain fatigue sets in. That’s why it’s typical for us to put our workouts on hold and opt for some quick drive through meals. We feel like we can’t handle making more decisions about what to do for workouts and healthy meals.
