There is a myth that those of us with dyslexia can’t be taught to read.
This is not true.
Every child can be taught to read (including those of us with dyslexia) if we are taught using evidence based, structured literacy programs aligned to the science of reading.
BUT, (there’s always a but), we need to identify dyslexia as early as possible.
It takes four times longer to intervene in 4th grade than in 1st grade.
The longer we wait to identify a child that struggles to read, the more intervention, time, money and remediation is needed, not to mention the impact that waiting may have on our self esteem and mental health.
Early identification of reading difficulties and evidence based intervention is essential.
Don’t leave reading to chance!
Early support changes EVERYTHING!

You don’t realize that dyslexia doesn’t just affect your reading and spelling.
My favourite dyslexia infographic showing how dyslexia affects more than just reading.

As dyslexics, everything seems to take us longer than our neurotypical peers.
Reading, processing language and writing takes so much of our mental capabilities, that to then be punished for not completing a given task in a timeframe not suited to our thought process, rather than acknowledged for the huge effort we have put in, can be devastating to our self esteem.
So, please don’t take away a dyslexic child’s lunch, playtime, reward points, treat or any other bonus, as most dyslexic students are already putting in double the effort of their peers.

This is so true
“Early screening is so important for our students with dyslexia…it begins the process of quickly connecting students with the powerful interventions that can help them overcome dyslexia, or even prevent it from ever being a factor in their lives.”
- Dr Jan Hasbrouck
Early identification and intervention for those of us with dyslexia is essential.
It is a myth that diagnosis of dyslexia needs to wait until 8-years of age.
The earlier dyslexia is identified the better.
Not only can early identification prevent us falling behind academically, it can also help safeguard against low self esteem, negative self worth, school refusal and school dropout.

I’m putting this out there for parents who are dyslexic with children that are dyslexic. I have discovered with everything I know and how to help my son. I still feel the heartache when I hear about his struggles at school. I’m hoping I’m not alone in this process.
I’m hoping this will help me with the healing process. to become a stronger support group for my children.
I would like to know your feedback, and to make sure I am not alone in this.
IM me with what you think and we can support one another.
