! In 1983, former Parkland College President Dr. Staerkel sent a simple gift, a Parkland cheerleader doll, to Tonia Anding, the daughter of longtime Assessment Center staff member Becky Dalton. What began as a thoughtful gesture during Tonia’s illness became a treasured symbol of friendship and care. 💌

The doll held a special place in Tonia’s life and, after her passing, Becky donated it to the Parkland College Library Archives in memory of both Tonia and Dr. Staerkel. Today, it stands as a lasting tribute to compassion, kindness, and the bonds that make Parkland more than just a college.

✨ This small keepsake reminds us that Parkland’s legacy is built not only on education but also on heart.

As part of Nexstar Media Group, Inc.’s Founder’s Day of Caring Diaper Drive, President Pam Lau had the opportunity to take on WCIA 3 News’s Amanda Brennan in a diaper-changing challenge!

This lighthearted activity gave Dr. Lau chance to showcase a few of her grandparenting skills and to invite the next generation of Cobras to join us at Parkland College.

As a reminder, Parkland College's summer hours are Monday through Thursday, 7:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. The college is closed on Fridays. Parkland resumes its regular operating hours on Monday, August 3, 2026. 🐍✅
