Invasive species alert - now is the time to be watching for newly hatched spotted lanternflies!
• First discovered in the Fuller Park neighborhood in Chicago in September 2023, reports of invasive spotted lanternfly populations have been limited to the Chicago area.
• This invasive insect pest damages fruit, ornamental, and woody trees by feeding on them, and could harm the grape and logging industries.
• Egg masses containing 30-50 eggs overwinter until the nymphs emerge late April / early May.
• Did you see a spotted lanternfly? Report it! Send a picture to [email protected] with the date, specific location, and number of insects.
