Black Canadians and Pandemics 05/29/2021

It's been awhile since I posted anything on my page. I hope to be more active in the future. I have decided to go back to writing for the public. Here, are 4 different articles on a few different subjects.

Black Canadians and Pandemics Is it possible to write about those who perished in the 1918 pandemic when the living actively deny their existence?

As a Christian who is also an academic, I'm committed to letting my light shine as much as I can. Here is an email from someone that affirms how I want to be in this world.

.....Again, thanks for checking in. I'm a big fan of your work. You're the only one (other....) that has expressed any concern about me or even acknowledged my involvement in all of this. I can't tell you how much getting this email means to me. It gives me hope that there are still some senior scholars of Black Canada that us junior scholars can look up to as exemplars and mentors in the field. Your encouragement is very well received with many thanks.

The Feminism of Black Panther vs. Wonder Woman 02/28/2018

Great article!!!

The Feminism of Black Panther vs. Wonder Woman First, I’ll start off this article by stating a simple fact: I saw Black Panther on opening night, and since then, I’ve wanted to write this post. I walked out of that film with so many…

I haven't taught Black Women and Popular Culture since 2011. Two days ago, I spent the entire day working on the syllabus, adding new readings blogs and films. I accidentally deleted the file, and had to start all over! I had to take a break to edit a tenure letter due on Friday. While I said a prayer for this candidate, I would be lying if I said, I didn't worry. Tenure can be political.

Classes begins next week: what am I doing? Healing from my second surgery; putting the last touches on a tenure letter; working on my syllabus for my course: Black Women and Popular Culture; the last time I taught this course was in 2011. I'm adding a lot of new materials.
Tips for students taking the course: don't be fooled by the "popular" or by "Black women." Also, the course isn't U.S. centered. How could I teach a popular culture course without dance hall and soca?

It's been awhile! I've been blessed to not have to to teach this semester. I completed an article based on the new book project. I also wrote a grant, and completed the book proposal. I also have 10 pages written on a chapter. Oh yeah, I'm a couple paragraphs from completing a book review, which is long overdue. Now, that I have written what I've accomplished, I appear pretty productive. Now, I'm in teaching mode.

Today, I paid attrention to my thoughts.I thought about ignorance, and anti-intellectualism, among other things. Earlier this week, I heard someone say that her that in Canada, if you break a leg, you'll need to wait, because that is how bad the health care system is. That blackness isn't equated with Canadianess means I hear all kinds of crazy stuff.
