People often ask “why do you need to do inversions, backbends, or splits???!!!??” In my practice inversions, and other challenging poses, are my own meditation. My mind has to stay quiet, my breath is focused, and my body is still. Some people can find this same feeling laying down. Unfortunately, my body has too many aches and pains and without muscle engagement my mind focuses on the discomfort. My meditation practice has grown and I can quiet my mind more easily now, but inversions were my first experience of that overwhelming calm. . . .

When I was teaching 1st and 2nd graders we would always remind the children of this concept. Teaching them to do things and play with people that “fill their buckets” and informing them that they have a choice to kindly not interact with those who don’t. We forget that as adults this still stays true.
