For more than a decade, Stefanie Cole has been one of the steady forces helping the Department of Speech and Hearing Science thrive.

While research breakthroughs and classroom innovations often take center stage, much of the work that keeps a department running smoothly happens behind the scenes—and Cole has been at the heart of it.

"I enjoy having a front-row seat to the growth within the department.”

Her path to higher education administration was anything but traditional. After serving in the U.S. Air Force and working at the Carle Cancer Center, she arrived in Champaign-Urbana as a new wife and mother, searching for a career that offered both stability and opportunities for growth.

What she found at Illinois was a place where she could build on her military and healthcare experience while creating a lasting impact on the campus community.
