Fourteen years ago, Kim dropped her youngest daughter off for her first day of kindergarten and found herself wondering what would come next.

Kim had worked as a special education teacher in public schools for eight years before choosing to stay home to raise her children. With her youngest beginning school, another chapter was on the horizon … for her daughter and for herself.

“I remember thinking, ‘What’s next for me?’” Kim said.

She didn’t have to wait long for an answer.

That very day, St. Joseph’s Indian School called and asked if she would consider a long-term substitute position in special education.

A Prayer for Happy Days 😁✨✝️

Dear Jesus,
We pray that our days at St. Joseph’s are happy days. We pray that they are filled with laughter and love. We pray that everyone feels safe, welcomed and has a true sense of belonging. We pray when our students look back on their days at St. Joseph’s, they will think of them as happy days. Amen.

Our classrooms are extra special because smaller class sizes mean more time to learn and grow together ... and before long, classmates become best friends! 💙

Our students have been busy putting their creativity to work by writing, drawing and learning along the way! ✏️✨🎨

This week’s Lakota Word Wednesday is owá ye — write it / draw it.

For 100 years, St. Joseph’s Indian School has been a place of safety, belonging and hope for Native American children. 💙

Today, our DreamMakers help make that possible through monthly gifts that provide students with food, clothing, education, counseling, cultural opportunities and the steady support they need to build brighter futures.

In honor of our 100th anniversary, we’re looking for 100 friends to become DreamMakers by September 3. Will you be 1 of the 100?

Philámayaye — thank you — for helping us continue this important work for the next 100 years.

Our Back-to-School Parade was a success! 🎉📚

The entire St. Joseph’s Indian School campus came together to welcome students back with signs, treats and smiles! It’s such a special way to kick off a new school year and remind our students just how excited we are to have them here! 💙

The kids have officially been back for over a week, and our school staff couldn’t resist having a little fun! 💙 We put together this video to the Friends theme song, “I’ll Be There for You,” because that’s exactly what our staff is here to do ... support, encourage and cheer on our students all year long! 🎶✨

Homesickness Prayer 💙💛

Heavenly Father,
We pray for our students as they adjust to life here on campus. For those who are missing home, family and the comfort of what is familiar, surround them with Your peace and reassurance. May their homesickness begin to fade as they form new friendships, build trusting relationships and find a sense of belonging here at St. Joseph’s. Calm their worries, ease their fears and help them settle into a time of comfort, peace and joy. May each student know they are cared for, supported and never alone as they begin this new school year. Amen.
