Registration for Winter Intersession and the Spring 2027 semester opens Oct. 21.

Winter Intersession offers all web-based courses:
-Intro Anatomy & Physiology and Nutrition & Diet Therapy (Both prerequisites for the Practical Nursing program)
-Biology I and II
-Intro to Business
-Physical Geology

More classes may be added. View the full list any time on the Nunez website.

Here's a recent throwback to Oct. 4 when we celebrated Chef Ruth Varisco for her 30+ years as a Culinary Instructor at Nunez Community College with 'A Seat at Chef Ruth's Table.' The charity event celebrated Chef Ruth's retirement, raised money for the Ruth Varisco Scholarship Fund, and unveiled a special piece of custom regalia made exclusively for Chef Ruth.

Chancellor Tinney and the Nunez family wanted to fulfill Chef Ruth's desire to wear a chef's toque as part of her regalia at our spring commencement ceremonies. Because the standard white cloth toque doesn't quite meet the standards for regalia, Dr. Tinney presented Chef Ruth with a custom-made, black velvet toque, that she can wear with her robe every year as Professor Emeritus at graduation!

All of us at Nunez wish Chef Ruth a splendid retirement, and we hope to see that velvet toque at graduation for years to come!

We're taking a second run at getting the Nunez Library Book Club off the ground! Same location, same book, new time. 📖🛫

All who can attend are invited to the second floor of the Nunez Library on Wednesday, Oct. 28, from 12pm-1pm to discuss 'Washington Black' by Esi Edugyan. This includes Nunez students, faculty and staff, and the community. No registration necessary, just walk in ready to talk books! 🗣️

One audio copy is available through the Nunez Library, and the audiobook is available on Audible, Spotify and Google Play.

The Nunez family celebrated our beloved Chef Ruth Varisco Oct. 4 with 'A Seat at Chef Ruth's Table.' 🎉👩‍🍳🥰

The event functioned as a retirement party and fundraiser, as all proceeds will go toward establishing the Chef Ruth Varisco Culinary Scholarship. Nunez will continue to accept donations on Chef Ruth's behalf through the Nunez Foundation website.

Many of Chef Ruth's former students, some from decades ago, were on hand to celebrate her career and to thank her for the care and guidance she provided them when they were anxious college students in her classroom. Many more students will become part of her legacy as her scholarship extends her influence indefinitely, making college more accessible, just as Chef Ruth says it should be. ♾️

Chef Ruth, who was a Nunez Culinary instructor from 1994-2026, was presented by Chancellor Tinney with a custom-made, black velvet chef's toque to serve as her regalia cap at future graduations ceremonies, which she's invited to forever.👩‍🎓

Save Money, Save Time, Skip a Class! Sign up for Pelican Prep for Mini-Session B!

Nunez students whose test scores in English and math don't meet the threshold (19 on ACT, 253 on Accuplacer) must take a co-requisite course along with their first math or English class to ensure success. That co-requisite course costs the same as any other course.

However, students can skip the co-requisite course and save that money by successfully completing the Pelican Prep program.

Pelican Prep for Mini-Session B starts the same day as the mini-mester, Oct. 14. Register today or visit the Student Success Center ASAP to enter the Pelican Prep program.

Nunez Community College is closely monitoring Tropical Storm Isaias in the Gulf of Mexico.

At this time, campus remains open, and all classes, services, and operations continue as scheduled.

Students and employees are encouraged to monitor Nunez email, the College website, and official social media channels for updates.
