“Yeah, I like to go to the club… DRAMA club.” 🎭✨

Preferably with an outrageous cape, a gladiator sword, or a story worth telling. ⚔️📖

On Wednesday afternoons, our Storytelling Club scholars join Mrs. Mahalik and Mrs. Guaglione to bring Greek myths from Myth Made Fact to life for younger scholars. And as you can see, getting into character is half the fun. 😂🎩

Behind the costumes are stories that have sparked questions for thousands of years. A pair of wings. A father’s warning. A boy who flies too close to the sun. ☀️🪽 When does ambition become pride? Why is wise counsel sometimes so difficult to follow?

📚 As scholars prepare stories like Daedalus and Icarus, they explore Biblical connections and questions about wisdom, temptation, obedience, and human nature. They practice using voice, expression, and pacing to capture an audience’s imagination—and help younger listeners discover meaning beneath the adventure.

🏛️ It’s a fitting project for our year in the ancient world: a little theatrical flair, big questions, and culture-makers learning to become storytellers and mentors.

Whimsymaxxing the class roster with Mrs. Klock. ✏️🌟

An entire piano around your name? Naturally. 🎹 Butterflies, bows, and enough color to make a plain name tag feel underdressed? Please proceed. 🦋🎀🌈

At Innovate Academy, we take learning seriously—and make room for a little whimsy along the way. Classical education has plenty of room for personality: the reader with impeccable style 📚, the philosopher with the best jokes 💭, the scholar who brings artistry to absolutely everything. 🎨

Who says you have to choose between being clever and being cool? Read the classics. 📖 Wear the bow. 🎀 Ask the wonderfully nerdy question. 🤓 Make something beautiful just because you can. ✨

Head, heart, and hands belong in the classroom. 🧠❤️🙌 So do delight, imagination, and the little flourishes that make us ourselves.

Some books make you want to step outside. 🌿📖

At Innovate Academy, at-home Fridays give scholars opportunities to carry their learning into the rhythms of family life. Sometimes that looks like a field trip or a service project. Sometimes it’s reading in a hammock, with lunch balanced beside an open book.

And if you’re a 5th grader reading Heidi, with its mountain air and Alpine meadows, it’s only natural to yearn for some fresh air of your own.

There’s wisdom behind this pace of learning. In fact, Dr. Christopher Perrin Classical Academic Press often shares these core principles with ancient roots:

🌿 Festina lente—“make haste slowly.” Give understanding time to take root.

📖 Multum non multa—“much, not many.” Spend time deeply engaging with a few worthy things.

☀️ Scholé—the Greek idea of leisure, applied to restful learning. Make room for contemplation, conversation, and wonder.

A hammock, a classic, and an unhurried afternoon can offer space to practice all three. Scholars can linger over a passage, ask a question, and notice how the world outside echoes the story in their hands.

What can a headdress (or hat) tell us about a civilization? 📜

This year, Innovate Academy’s history cycle takes our scholars into the Ancient World, beginning with Egypt!

These colorful creations are inspired by the nemes, the striped headcloth worn by ancient Egyptian pharaohs. The cobra at the forehead, called the uraeus, symbolized royal authority and divine protection in Egyptian belief—a small detail with a powerful message about how rulers wanted to be seen.

Scripture offers another example of clothing with meaning: God instructed the Israelites to wear tassels with a blue cord on their garments as a reminder to obey His commandments (Numbers 15:38–39). What they wore could remind them of how they were called to live.

These details invite our scholars to consider clothing as a visual language. From royal headdresses to religious garments, dress can communicate beliefs, suggest wealth or rank, and express belonging—though it never tells someone’s whole story.

Everyone keeps asking if you’re ready for high school. Meanwhile, you’re thinking… 🫠

You don’t need a ten-year plan, but you probably want to know that the next four years will have room for you—your interests, your questions, and the things you haven’t figured out yet.

At Innovate Academy’s Upper School, getting to know YOU is part of building your personalized learning plan. You’ll work with mentors and choose electives that give you something to look forward to in your schedule. 🙌
