👏🏾Dr. Candace Jones, Vice President of Administrative and Business Services at Long Beach City College, recently defended her dissertation, “When Words Fall Short: Mission Statement, Leadership, and Persistence of Anti-Blackness in California Community Colleges.” Dr. Jones received the Outstanding Doctoral Dissertation Award!

👏🏾Dr. Ty Wesley is the Associate Professor in the Graduate School of Education’s Department of Learning and Teaching at California Lutheran University. She was recently awarded the Outstanding Teaching Award!

👏🏾Kal Stewart, Associate Dean & Director of Athletics at Long Beach City College, led LBCC athletics to their most successful academic year (2025–2026) since 2005–2006! Under his leadership, competing student-athletes have maintained a 3.0 average GPA for four consecutive years, alongside earning 9 conference championships across 18 sports.

Your leadership, scholarship, and commitment to excellence continue to inspire our village. 💫

As the first recipient of our Loretta Thomas Scholarship, Naomi earned a GPA above 3.0 and, in her own words, “plans to crush the spring semester” by meeting more people and achieving even higher grades.

Naomi sends her prayers and gratitude for the continued support, and we are so thankful for the joy, confidence, and light she brings to our village. 💫
